I keep reading that the car is "numb" and "boring" - and then there are those who are comparing the F90 M5 to a Porsche 911?

Then there are the E39 folks and "my 2007 BMW" guys who seem to again not realize this is 2018. There is NO F90 competitor that is like the olden days. Those days are gonzo. Everything is big and heavy in this class. So saying that it wasn't nimble - compared to what (please don't say a Porsche 911). The numb - non-analog steering is everywhere. So while there are legit gripes with the car - it is really for ANY car in its class.

Now for the boring comments. I just don't get this. Getting back to expectations - what were they? Being more excited in an M3? Why? Because they are naturally more nimble because they are the smaller, lighter and therefore more chuckable car? Lol.

My point?

As per one of the other posts I quoted:

The F90 M5 is exactly what it should be - and is the best in its class right now performance wise. It's great to comment and give opinion, but 911 or E39 M5 to F90 M5 comparisons aren't it.
Spot on!!!! This M5 is so good, that it's broken through the barriers and constantly being compared and challenged by cars in other classes! Again w/ are talking about a 4 door, 5 seat "family sedan" and is being constantly compared to (and beating or close to that) the 911, Dodge Demon and the likes. Most, if not 99.9% of all sedans, have have no business even being a part of that conversation! Hats off to BMW's M division and congrats to all of us being able to experience such an incredible machine...

Yeah I prefer full course with the big back strait. Going over that crest at speed is such a rush. My club does not do Grand Course, maybe it's just reserved for special events and cars?

Don’t tell others because it’s already too crowded, but Trackdaze does an event at the beginning of November, where you run the Full course on day 1, and Grand course (LL config) on day 2. Best event at VIR.

It’s fun, some very good and “famous” drivers attend, and the infield course is an incredible challenge. PM me if you want to meet there in Nov.

My gripe with it is that different drivers inevitably have different skill levels, some are pretty much professional from the footage while others are weekend warriors leads to very inconsistent results. If it was one very average driver testing all the cars then it would be a good representation of real world results, kind of like The fast lane car's test.

Actually, no you can't. Laws of terminal velocity prevent that...

I disagree with this as well. I'd argue that you'd shit your pants out of excitement...

Watch the power level drop off throughout the lap. Also look at the speed on lap 1 vs lap 2

132-133mph at the start/finish on the first lap and 114mph on the second lap.

Obviously that was an 85 not a 100 so it may not be as pronounced now but the same issues will be apparent with the reduction in power and poor handling.

I also want to add... Good luck getting one of these Jags since it will be a very limited production vehicle whereas you can walk in a BMW dealership and order and M3/4/5

Will have to see how the model 3 performance and p100d handle track duty. With some mods or a performance model s with coil over suspension and mpss tires this could help.

If I wanted a "real" sport car, I would get one. Actually, I had one and sold it because I wanted something more comfortable and more practical (but still fun-enough to drive).
What he said. Just drove my 2016 F80 from the East coast to Colorado, turned it in at end of lease and picked up a new 2018 F90 and drove it back. Trip back was more comfortable and fun. Loved my F80, but dig the F90 more as its range of adjustability is wider making it more of the classic GT style that I like with the added bonus of 4 wheel drive for the North East weather. If I could of swung a GTC4 Lusso I would have, but this will work plenty fine for now.
