Almost every BMW speedo I've seen indicates 5% higher than actual speed. 155 x 1.05 = 162.75 My E60 M5 cut off at 170.

This seams a bit odd, as one day driving in a course like that is not going to make an average driver into some super driver! Nor will it be equivalent to 38 plus years of real driving experience?

Mike
Without M Drivers Pack, the "peak" limiter is 260km/h - 162mph but the Maximum Continuous Velocity Limit is 250km/h - 155mph when fully laden.

With M Drivers Pack, 305km/h - 190mph is the limit on the F90. Unlike the F10M CP* and G12 M760**, it wont sneak* let alone surge** past this in a Production Conformity car.

Now there is another catch...

TPMS (known internally as eTWiS) in conjunction with DSC, Axle Load Sensors, External Temp Sensors and iDrive Wheel and Tire settings ultimately dictate the maximum operating speed. This also provides near perfect speedo calibration and the value displayed is no more than 0.6% high at any given time.

I'm one of the instructors for the M Drivers Pack specific program which is focused specifically on the Ultra High Velocity "differences", but the locations these are done can limit the exposure unfortunately. A 1 day school certainly is not sufficient for anyone that has limited or no experience at 120mph +. A 190mph emergency stop on cold CCB's for a first timer is well...

156 mph. You need to still purchase the M Driver's Package if you have the limit raised to 189.

Well, here is a link directly to BMW and not a third party site. It has two speed limits for the M5 Competition. 156 and [190]. The later has this disclaimer: "Top speed limited electronically. Figures in [ ] apply to vehicles with performance tires and increased top-speed limiter." The "increased top-speed limiter" is for the M Driver's Package. When you configure the car, that option specifically says "...experience a new level of power with your top speed limiter raised..."

No.

M Driver's Pack (optional on both the std and comp) raises the limiter.

That almost killed me back in the 90s.
Emergency stop in a 3 series from 130mph to 60mph, the golf’s speed, by the time I slowed down to match the speed I was less than a car length from hitting him.
Scared the shit out of me, I’m convinced the ABS saved me that day.
Wow shit pants much

You can't. BMW won't remove the limit (afaik). You can buy the M Drive upgrade after delivery and they will code it up to 189 MPH/305 KPH. If you want it GONE you have to use a 3rd party ECU flash...

I have done 314 km/h or 195mph. It stopped pulling at that speed. But I reckon even without limiter it would max at 325-330. Keep in mind I was on an airstrip with 2.5 miles of room.

It had a speed trap at 1/2mile, 1mile, 2miles and 2.5miles
Mine has M Drivers Package

The 189mph speed limit is probably irrelevant for 95 percent of US buyers. No place to even safely and legally do 155. Of course there are those few that have access to special facilities like old air strips.
