where are you installing the sub?
just setting it it up in a stand alone sealed box. it'll be removable which is what i wanted.

For those who decide to install extra subs......I don't know if it placebo, but......

I have noticed that if you lower the 100Hz by 4-5 points in equalizer then increase the bass in the tone settings by 4-5 points, so it shows the 100Hz level again with the other frequencies, it helps boost the 20-100Hz range, without being 'boomy'.

Makes the subs kick a little better.

i too was able to EQ it to where i thought it sounded good but i'm also not a bass-head. i can feel my bass reasonably well and it sounds good. i bumped the high frequencies on the EQ just a touch as well and i am pleased with the results.

So far I think it's great.

The funky light up speakers are a bit weird though. LOL

I am going to try this out.

8w7 didn't give me enough kick so I changed it to 12w6V3.

When I got the car I thought wow B&W. I have diamond 804 D3s with a Mcintosh amp at home and they are superb, but we are talking apples and oranges. But being real there is no way I could expect similar performance for that price. You get what you pay for and the 3k is right in the middle, something that can probably be said with HK or B&O upgrades. Better than stock, but only 3K better.

Nothing sounds better than the upgraded Burmeister in the AMG'S. At least when you're comparing factory systems. You could easily outdo both with a good custom setup but don't know how easy that will be on the B&W or Burmeister. I know upgrading the Bang and Olufsen was a PITA so I opted for the HK when I got my X5 in 2013 cause it's much easier to work with that or the base audio system in the BMW's.

For those who consider themselves "audiophiles", I'd be interested in what your settings are at. This will come in handy in a couple months :-)

My Azurite M5 has the B&W upgrade. I haven't been able to dial in the settings to a point where I think it sounds fantastic. It sounds good; don't get me wrong. I've tried a couple of the sound stages and made some tone adjustments, but I haven't been blown away. The highs still seem a bit too bright (to me) and the lows lack a bit of punch.

For reference, I have an Integra amp paired with Paradigm speakers at home. It's a vary laid back sound. The Paradigm Servo-15 packs a punch - but then again, it is a 15" sub. Something the M5 doesn't have.

For more direct comparison, I upgraded the speakers in my 2012 535i to the Bavsound speakers and their Ghost subs paired with a Bimmertech amp (adjusted several times to hit a sweet spot with different types of music). While I've adjusted the amp, the tone is set to flat. Overall it sounds great with nice (not too bright) highs and punchy lows even on high volume (with no distortion).

On the M5, I have lowered the highs and bumped the low bass by EQ a little. It still isn't quite where I would say it is awesome but it does sound good. The bass still lacks punch and seems to get a bit bright at higher volume. I haven't noticed distortion yet but that may be because my ears feel like they are going to bleed from the highs before I get the volume too high. ;-)

For now (and perhaps it is because I'm used to it), I still think I like the Bavsound/Bimmertech combo in my 535 a little better. Perhaps after I fiddle with the sound a bit more and try different combos of the sound stage/tone settings I'll find the system in the M5 to be a bit more to my liking.

Because "good sound" is so subjective, YMMV. I included the other stuff as reference to give some sort of baseline of what I generally appreciate sound-wise.

Looks like someone already upgraded from the HK system to the Bavsound and liked it. Given my last 2 BMWs have had the Bavsound upgrade, I'm curious as to how it sounds and what it would sound like when directly compared with the B&W: http://f90.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1508632

Perhaps I spoke too soon. As the speakers are breaking in they are definitely sounding better than they did at first. I want to give them a bit more time to break in and see how they sound.

Anyone else find the sound calmed down/filled out a bit more with after break in?

I’m one that usually doesn’t believe too much in break in, I have to say that I did notice a big change after having music go through the speakers for a while. At first, I thought it was a bad upgrade, now I like it much more.

I ended up going in the car with a calibrated mic and adjusted the equalizer. Overall the curve was a boost in the bass and then a standard treble roll off. But around 1K to 2K hertz there was a weird dip and rise. So I used the equalizer to try and smooth it out. This was with the engine off.

Cool. What mic/set up did you use? I'd like to try this.

I used an iTestMic2 (http://www.studiosixdigital.com/audi...are/itestmic2/) and AudioTools on my iPad.

I used the same setup for my home system to help move around the speakers and get the best response.

An audiophile here, my first post.

heard the B&W systems on a few models ,in preparations to come back to the reservation ( the BMW one that is....)after 9 years of amgs, and I'm quite impressed with the B&W sound. open ,airy with very good bass attenuation, and very good mids. very much in par with the BURMESTER system.
the HK system , otoh, is pure s***... imho, of course.

Here are my settings on the equalizer. I tried not going so heavy handed. I tried to smooth things out versus completely taking out the peaks or nulls. The ones that looked more extreme are 2 notches up or down and the one around 100 hz, is only 1 notch.
