death trap 135i
Left my girlfriend in the car as i went to go get propane in a store and as i walked away from my car i locked it.
When getting back to my car my girlfriend was upset that i locked her in and that she was unable to escape. So i asked if she pulled the handle twice.. She did. I didnt believe her so after getting in the car with her i locked the door with both us inside. I did the double pump of the handle and was able to get out.. She swore she wasnt able so I had her lock the door on me while i was in the car.. And yes, the doors do not unlock from the inside if the key fob is outside the car. I was somewhat concerned about that but i rmember there is a button inside the car to unlock or lock the doors. Hit that and double pumped the handle and i was out.. This the same for everyone?

I believe that is the way it works, but you could fold the seats down and always get out thru the trunk.
A better heading might be. BMW Locking System Quandary. |

why stop at a knife? why not equip your car with an actual ejector seat system? You're out of warranty so what harm could come of it?

Don't understand why there there is only one lock/unlock button in the middle of the dash. Most cars have one on each side. GF probably looked and did not find the button in the usual location, then gave up.

It is funny you mention this because I have used this feature on friends that I want to joke around with... What makes it 100% more funny is that BMW is probably the one and only car manufacturer that does not have "unlock/lock" door buttons... so people have no idea where to look.
To make it even better BMW puts it in such a strange spot and its only 1 button. (above the radio by the hazard light button...) !!! |

I don't think it is a design flaw, a lot of cars are equipped with "double locks", the idea is to make it impossible for someone to break into the locked car by smashing a window and unlock it from the inside. On some car, the feature locks the doors completely only some time after you lock the doors, so that passengers accidentally locked in have a chance to open the door before it is impossible (on my 2002 Volvo V40 you could hear the second lock about 1 minute after I did it with the keyfob). I don't know for the 1er though

Not sure I'd agree keeping the gf in the car is a benefit. Show me a way to get rid of them!!!
