Dash buzzes and creaks
I have a M5C LCI ...it's a month old and I have some intermittent dash buzzes and creaks. It's coming from the area of the climate control and the new big screen. Anyone experience this?

I get rattles from the dash when I hit bumps in the road. Seem to be coming from behind the instrument cluster, or maybe from the HUD. Really annoying for a car of this caliber, especially when it was happening while still new.

I have two noises: when the A/C cools the car down on a warm day, the dash creaks all over. I also have a rattle around the SOS button/reading lights. And for certain settings, when the passenger seat is empty, it also rattles.

It maybe the speaker grill behind the screen, mine did this and i sorted it be bending the grill ever so slightly. They are very thin, and do seem to buzz.

Around the SOS button, could be the rear view mirror, they do have a tendency to rattle and buzz. Grab it and squeeze it the next time you hear it.

For me, it's the sun screen in the back. Rattles like no tomorrow. Anytime I ask someone else if they hear it, they act like I'm crazy. But I hear it lol and I don't know how to fix it.

For the guys who think it's the sunscreen> My X5M rattled like crazy from the back (especially when going over a bump) and I put my friend in the back seat to see if he could tell where the thump noise (rattling noise) was coming from. He thought it was the trunk cover that was making the noise, but it wasn't. The latch on the trunk when it closes slides into the lock on the bottom of the trunk. The lock needed tape put around it to keep the trunk door fastened securely and no more noise. I don't know if this is what's causing noises in the M5 but it might be worth a try.

Yes my car rattles sometimes; pushing on the trim pieces will also create a considerable amount of cracking sound, probably nothing you can do about the whole situation. Just how the car was put together unfortunately.

I think rattles in cars of this caliber is unacceptable. I also have a new Range Rover Sport and it has no rattles after 10,000 miles. My Jag SVR had no rattles in 50K miles.
That said, my creaks are not too bad but it irritates me because the car should be perfect when it's so new. |

I wonder if the buzz is coming from big screen. I notice it when the screen turns on. Thought it was normal.

I thought it was coming from the dash but it turned out to be from the plastic lid over the steering column that has a pair of hinges that allow this steering wheel column top flapped cover to move when one adjusts the steering wheel heiihhtand telescoping. The flap cover was out of one of the two tracks and was the source of most of my rattling that resolved on fixing it. There are still a few dashboard rattles in the M5 that are not present in my 2013 Audi S6 with over 80k miles which is disappointing! |
