Change of topic... insurance

My car is insured by my company and my opt-out scheme. If I go for an M5 (working on prices this week) and subsequently leave the company I want to be sure insurance is affordable - so I got a quote with Direct Line.

I was expecting circa £1,500 ( I have zero no claims - unless I get a letter form the company insurance provider).

So as above, zero no claims, 41 3/4 years of age

£696

Bargain, the upside of being old!

Yep they are not expensive to insure which surprised me, mine costs no more than my 335d did.

That sounds a lot! Do you do comparison sites when renewing?

I've just got quote for 2015 M5 with only 1 year No Claims £516

I have another car with more NCD, but can't use it on 2 policies, annoyingly.

I renewed mine recently with Direct Line ..... I put in an M3 as a comparison and it came out £100 cheaper.

Hmm this looks like compelling evidence to us all that M cars will save us money.

Cool, remember the sign off criteria for business case are:-

- Anything other than an immediate 100% 'no' is deemed a 'yes' and acceptance of the business case is assumed.

Man Maths.

Made myself laugh yesterday... sat in Sainsbury's car park behind an X5 M50d (Carbon Black) and a 520d (Sapphire) - said to the wife, 'there's the two cars on my short list'..... (well, kinda)

She thought the '5' looked wider but the X5 was 'ridiculous'; kids said the X5 would be an epic holiday car but it was otherwise 'too big'. I'm almost there.

Just need to convince myself 100% now.

I agree the X5 is an epic holiday car, and there is just something great about sitting on the lower portion of the boot opening eating a sarnie or putting muddy boots on, feels very Cheshire

However the F10 is pretty practical. I managed to get 56cm fream road bike inside the back of the car easily, few well placed towels for seat protection. There's a load of space in that size car too.

In my case - not really.

My 335d insurance has gone up £100 since last year with DL. So the quote for a brand new M3 is only the same as I paid last year for my 335d.

I have noticed as my BMWs has got older, the insurance goes up. A new one (whatever it is) always seems to be cheaper.

More on the road, more crashes, thefts, history = higher insurance? That & the insurance industry want our £'s anyway they can get them

Hi Stranger
My E63 renewed at just under £600...that's with 3 points though and I'm 37. Thought it would be a lot more.
Have you ordered yet???

Wow... he's back!!! Hello there.

Not yet, looking at options - I may yet take on the 135 and get an 'X' car for the family.

M5 was epic but still does not fully tick the 'more versatile' box; a tourer or X would be better. I'm not sure I could live with an X5 due to the lack of fun factor but yesterday out with my wife she emphasised that she would love an X3. This wasn't in budget when we replaced her car, but easily in budget for mine - so the proposal is we swap.

I need to factor in toys I would want for the 135.... cup tyres on another set of wheels, LSD perhaps, RS kit, MP exhaust a MUST...

Could still be £200 per month better off.

How is the E63 going?

Great. Well good luck coming to a decision. I'm sure you'll make the right decision. When do you get rid of the 335?
E63 is going well thanks. It's a lively little thing!
It's so good to just potter around town in but when you want to press on it really doesn't seem like such a big motor. The AMG ride control suspension is fantastic. Well to me anyway.
I'm so glad (and lucky) that I've managed to tick the 'AMG' box in my life but whether I would change to another one next time is still unknown. I will consider my options and start test driving other vehicles towards the end of the year.
We're in the process of buying a house at the moment and that will no doubt take up any spare cash so finding ways to reduce my monthlies will probably be more of a priority next time.
You never know what's round the corner though...
Take care mate and speak soon
