Cheapened m5

So just some small observations compared to when I had my m6(first one) that really cheapen the car :

1. Full leather not full leather anymore
2. Paddle shifters don’t light up
3. M buttons don’t light up
4. Black wheels have silver valve stems — why?
5. Lack of carbon ceramic controls in us especially with dark aluminum carbon trim
6. Steering wheel buttons are very crude and size of printing does not match rest of interior style.

Thoughts ?

Fair points for sure. Still seems pretty nice. And pretty expensive.

Maybe. But the interior seats are beautiful - they're a real step up from anything bmw has done before. That to me outweighs some of the smaller (correct) items you pointed out .

The entire interior feels much nicer than any other M car. Sure they could've used more leather like they used to.

I don’t think my M button or paddles light up on my F10. Do they?

This is nicest interior of any M I have ever owned...and this is my 3rd. Beautiful car, and cheapened is the last word that would ever come to my mind.

While it is nicer overall certain elements are a step backward.

That is a subjective statement at best.

I personally would never want leather down near the footwell. Much easier to clean scuffs off of dark plastic, as opposed to nice soft leather.

Lighted shifter? I am a much bigger fan of the new mood lighting in the interior dash...looks very slick.

See...totally subjective.

Every button in the car is illuminated and visible at night including steering wheel buttons so at night you know what you are pushing.

Why does that not apply to paddle shifters and m buttons ?

I agree that the paddles are small and cheap. The M1 & M2 buttons should light up

The M buttons are big and red, right in front of your face. Not sure how you can not see them at night. I certainly would not want them glowing in my face.

I also know where the paddle shifters are...not need to illuminate them imo.

Are the rest of the steering wheel buttons glowing in your face? Yes I know where they are but I don’t know which is 1 and 2. Or + or - Relying on memorization isn’t an answer that’s why they printed symbols on them and every button in the car

Makes far more sense to illuminate buttons that are pretty much blended and flushed with each other (steering wheel buttons) than unique buttons (M1, M2, shift paddles) which you know what they are.

You can't remember that M1 is on the left and M2 on the right?

And the paddles...really?

They want to nitpick everything...it's kinda sad.

I get it. If it's something you had before, you kind of wish BMW included it but to everyone else, it's a non-factor.

I can't think of a suitable word but not having illuminated buttons doesn't cheapen anything IMP.

I've been driving my F90 around all day. I do not miss the F10 interior at all. This new M5 interior is in another dimension compared to the previous model. It's not even close. Speaking for myself, I won't have a problem remembering M1 left and M2 right, and I have never needed the paddles to be illuminated to know where they are.

F10 M5 doesn’t have illuminated shifters; it’s pretty obvious where they’re located. M buttons are illuminated.
