The Audi RS6 Avant is the direct wagon/touring competitor, also available in the US. Starts at $125,800. Is $135k with usual options. That's where the M5 Touring should land.

Figure north of $140,000. Just look at the recent BMW NA price hikes across the model range. No discounts as a big ADM/ADP for the 1st movers/ aka takers. This model will make up and fill the coffers from the XM failure.

If any car is bound to exceed sales expectations, it’s this one.

We will see what the sales numbers indicate. Lots of talk from people saying they want a wagon, but poor sales is likely the reason it has had limited availability throughout the years.

spot on. if you cross shop the RS6 Touring or the RS7, you're looking at roughly the same number.

plus, at the price point, we won't see many on the road - similar to the RS6 Touring

sort of unfair to gauge the US market's appetite for a wagon based on this model

Looks cool, but out of my budget. I’d love to have an M3 touring.

Truth! If there is no M3 Tourings for those of us that don't want to spend $150,000 on a daily driver, the USA touring sales will be poor and BMW will once again determine we are a SUV and not Touring country.

My dealer sales manager told me he was part of a dealer roundtable discussion with NA regarding the 5 touring. Their recommendation was to start with the M5 Touring and if it sold well then roll out the non-M touring version. I bet the 540i Touring would sell well when MB E class wagon is selling probably 8-10k units per year based on 1/month at a local mid sized dealer.

Ask Porsche how their station wagons are doing in the US. Worldwide they only sold like 3400 units last year! Thats seriously pitiful sales performance. Wagons are niche vehicles and not widely considered.

400lbs added for the batteries and electric motors?

Then that would mean:

2025 M5: 4,770 lbs
2025 M5 Wagon: 5,000 lbs
You can't extrapolate like that. They aren't the same platform.

Maybe not the best way to judge wagons sales. Maybe if they start with something a bit more affordable to see. This strategy make me laugh we will come to the market with incredibly expensive wagons and if their is demand we will bring cheaper one? It should be the opposite

The last wagon that BMW offered stateside - the F31 wasn't even available with N55/B58 engines. I will totally agree wagons are bit niche, but offering either the lowest of the low (4 cyl 3er) or M5 wagon...surely there is a middle ground?

Many have said that the S58 powered X3 M competition was & always will be the M3 of the SUV world. Or in other words, the closet thing to a M3 touring. All I know is it's about damn time an M5 touring comes to the USA for sale.

Surely the M3 touring is the closest thing to an M3 touring?

I actually own a F31 328d for 8 years and I think the lack of power was probably the worst thing about it. A proper 6 cylinder either gas or diesel would have fix it.

I traded it for a Mercedes E450 All terrain if there would have been a 5 touring the choice could have been completely different.

Btw, saw this mock up of the new M5 Sedan by RBR in his recent upload. I think it looks stunning if it’s gonna look anything like this.
