Other things to consider are cost of ownership.
For some people cost of anything is a non-issue, but for those of us for whom it is a consideration, the cost of owning a Porsche is DRAMATICALLY higher than a BMW, even an M car.

For instance, every regular scheduled maintenance on a Porsche (which are required if you want to keep your warranty intact) will cost thousands of dollars. BMW: free for the first several years (variable depending if you purchase an extended maintenance plan and which one).

Again, for some it isn't an issue, and if that's the case, more power to ya.
I was cross-shopping the M2C and a Cayman S, and once I factored in costs of ownership, the Cayman S not only costs 30-50% more in initial outlay, it will cost probably another $6k-$8k in scheduled maintenance over the first 3 years, depending how much you drive it, where BMW costs zero. My fiancee's close friend just had her Cayenne in the dealership and they charged her $1200 to change spark plugs and oil. Sure, that can be done at home, but then they might not honor your warranty if you DIY required service.

Plus the Porche dealership near me are just dicks, based on my good friend's experience with them, where the BMW dealer I use are great. That gets my loyalty all by itself. Sure, there are plenty of less-than-stellar BMW dealers out there, but I won't patronize this Porsche dealer just because they act like they are doing you the favor by letting you buy or lease a car from them and that you should be grateful for the privilege.

It's an amazing platform. Everyone into cars should own one at some point and I wish they would crank more of them out. I had the base Elise and could keep up with some pretty hot cars on the track. So much fun.. Very cheap to operate.

All great until you have to drive home three hours on the freeway....

I looked hard at an Elise/Exige a few years back. Didn't they stop making them when they went to the Evora though?

I don't see many around anymore. They're probably all relegated to track duty.

They lost (or used up) their US exemption for safety features. I sold mine about 3 years ago and have not followed things. Something like half of them have salvaged titles I've heard. Very easy to total them, but very easy to repair in many situations. A 5 MPH tap could run over $10,000 to repair so many got salvaged and then dudes buy them and fix them on the cheap.

Think pretty eggshell covering up an aluminum superstructure.

I remember driving to and from Button Willow 165mi each way and doing 200 track miles in one day for a one day total of 530 miles!! . When i got home i felt like i had been in a fight. I had Nitron SA's with 550/725 lb springs so it made a stock Exige ride feel like a Buick ..carl

yeah.. with ZERO nannies. Literally zero nannies. It was just you and that little beast.

Then you come over to "M" and everyone talks about multiple M buttons, apple car play, adaptive cruise, M active suspension, launch control. I can't even keep it all straight.

Probably old news, but did anybody notice that the sports exhaust is now standard on both the 718 and 718 S as well? I wonder why Porsche did that <sarcasm font on>??

I liked Porsche until they became the most profitable automobile manufacture. How many 10s of thousands does it cost to increase displacement and upgrade brakes?

Seems like you get way more in M than S.

I know Porsche will be coming out with a new GT4, but I believe that will be even a tier higher than the M2C and will costs significantly more than a M2C. I know a 718 GTS can hit six figures, but My build is not that crazy.
These aren't even comparable vehicles. The GTS is in a different league.

When did this happen? My mother recently took delivery of a 2018 718 base and has standard exhaust.

Like a bus but still blows the doors of a Exige S240 on track. I had a Elise with Katana with the same MP62 and it was slow on track compared to my 997 gt3.

Didnt, say it was faster just the difference in feel. My past 996 GT3 and GT2 and my current GT4 are all faster on track but no where as near as much fun as the Exige was. carl

Only one clip of a cold start and quick low revs. It isn’t going to sound any different than a M4 with or without aftermarket exhaust. I personally really like the S55 with a correct exhaust setup.

It doesn’t matter much with the 718.

Now, with the 981...totally different story.

Was leaving work and spotted a 981 GTS today. Guy gave it a little throttle and it sounded so good. Immediately I thought, "they don't make them like they used to."

Ah, but Porsche is known for its generosity, no ...or are you suggesting that Porsche knows damn well that the 718 4-banger sounds underwhelmingly un-Porsche (let's refrain from harking back to the "4-cyl Porsche past" that Porsche marketing tries to sell us) ?

Will test drive one tomorrow. I am confronted with the absolute same decision. 718 GTS or M2C or M4?

Let's see! I have high expectations regarding the Porsche. The old 981 was fantastic.

GTS will impress im sure! Didnt feel that much faster than m2 up till 120kmh, then the gts says goodbye! Handling is amazing and it didnt sound as bad as I was expecting it to.
M4 will feel like a bloody 7 series compared to the cayman,
