NEED help.. I bought real *woven* carbon fiber fabric
I bought carbon fiber fabric from an eBay seller and I received my order several days ago. However, when I took out my carbon fiber fabric earlier today, I found it is totally different from what ppl in this forum often used, it looks like this
yes...it was woven, double sided, and the edge of each single piece of cf fabric I cut from it is easy to come off, as you guys can see from the picture above, a bunch of cf can easily come off from the edge (sry English is not my native language, I am not so sure to express correctly :P)....Has anyone ever tried to use this kind of fabric to wrap the trim? I am not sure if I should go with this... |

this is the kind of carbon fabric that people use to "wet lay" with resin. You can wrap the trim but as you probably already know, there's going to be tiny little holes everywhere because unlike the fabric, nothing is holding it together except the weaves.

I actually did EXACTLY as you are contemplating with a carbon fiber - kevlar fabric. It's "do-able", but man you have no idea what a PIA it is to work with.
I was able to get it to lay alright. The best thing you can do is NOT cut individual pieces to lay on the trim. The best process is to keep the fabric a single sheet, spray the adhesive on the trim pieces and cover several pieces at a time. Then cut around each piece after the fabric has been laid. This will enable the fabric to NOT unravel before/after it's cut. If you follow thru with a coating over the material (which is recommended since the material is easy to snag) have a bodyshop apply a clear coat rather than a resin. I had gone with the red cf w/ resin. It ended up not being the look I wanted. PM me if you need any help moving forward with the project. |

I know you sold the cf already but I just made a beer pong table and skinned the table top with cf fabric...I used epoxy/resin from carbonmods.co.uk and it came out pretty well...for future reference for others, make sure you lay the top laminating epoxy thick, really thick I made the mistake of putting Multiple thin layers on and also didn't get the ratio right so the first coat didn't dry (make sure you measure)...they also have really good video tutorials and now that I have experience I will prob wrap my interior trim with this method
