DSC and DTC I spent part of the afternoon in a parking lot to figure out how the DSC and DTC are working together. I found out that the DSC is still working when engaging the DTC (DSC is disabled only when DTC pressed for three seconds) As I like to have full control of the driving, I guess I'll activate the DTC for city driving and disable it for the highway (keep full DSC for safety). What do you guys recommend? (BTW the Blizzac LM-22 are doing great so far) Cheers! Seb Last edited by sebby; 11-27-2005 at 05:26 PM.. |

When i had my RWD 325i last winter I turned off the DTC and DSC for city driving if the snow was bad. I mean, you'll be turning at a corner, and the engine will shut down if you spin the wheels...that's dangerous if there's someone behind you.
I always ran the full DSC system on the highway, and it helped more than once. No, I won't carry a spare, in fact I haven't even thought of it. In 28 years I haven't had a flat, and if I have one now, I sure as hell wouldn't be at the side of the road fixing it...(can you spell BMW roadside assistance?). I don't care if I have to pay for a tow, it's less than ONE runflat winter, not to mention the ALLOY wheel I must have for my 325xi (as per BMW Canada). Since I'm in an xi I don't extra weight on my back wheels...this car is THE BOMB in the snow. I wish all you Montreal guys could try it out!!!

Wellcome Seby.
I agree with Stew - I would take off DSC in the City in snow, but leave it on on the HWY for safety. Yesterday we were at a wedding, got home at midnight in the middle of the freezin rain. The car handled very well. The only slide was to get back up and out of our driveway which has a steep incline towards the house to the garage while giving our baby sitter a ride home. But that was on sheer ice and she still made it up the hill (with the yellow light flashing furiously). I just gave gas, not too much and let the DSC (on) do its thing. |

I'd take that snowblower and dump it in the river. It's obviously an uncaring POS. At least your car has more than 1000kms!!!! So it's not that new anymore!!

what a pleasure to drive my beauty on a dry road without any snow !!!
I still have my summer tires I m not driving it when the temperature falls below 0 or when it s snowing... finally I changed my mind.....tiretrends is less expensive than the Lazer thing I might go with the same package as Bimmerista...I like it a lot. I was also thinking of the 5series replica 17` but someone posted that they don t fit the 330i ( if I decide to change at the end of my lease ) Bimmerista are you sure the M5 replica 17` fit the 330i ? Should I take 17*8 or 17*7.5 ? the stock wheels are 17*8 |

Hey Sam,
You suffered last week, and this week you are laughing!! I hate running winters on warm roads...they are squishy like sponges! If you call tiretrends and ask them they will tell you...they won't sell you a rim that won't fit your car. The cool thing is that there is no Provincial Sales tax either. You do pay shipping. And get your tires there too, so they are mounted and balanced for free, otherwise your garage or dealer will charge you fifty bucks to do that. I bought little BMW stickers from my dealer to go on the wheels so the car looks a little nicer (if that is possible when it is all slushy and ugly looking....).

The wheels are "Sport Edition F6". Made in China, 16", $129.95 each. My goal is not cosmetic beauty but functionality and finally, disposability when the car is moved on! And I don't think they look that horrible anyway. http://www.tiretrends.com/wheel_cata...3?wheelID=6227 I think the car is LOWER with this wheel/tire combo.

We're travelling to Toronto this weekend (Fri-Sun) in the E90. I MIGHT bring one of my All seasons in the trunk as a spare with my jacking stuff. That's the kind of trip that qualifies for the Spare treatment.
Heck even if I had runflats I'd do it, who wants to wait around on a Friday afternoon or a Sunday morning in winter with your whole frickin' family in the car for a BMW dealership to fix your tire when you're 800 kms from home?????

I got 17-8 in, exactly the same set up as the standard 330i (no ZSP). And I agree with you (of course) I love my mags and can highly recommend the Dunlops M3 winters DSSTs . The onlything is road noise but that is an issue with runflat tires as a whole (they atransmit a bit more noise than non runflats). My M5 Replicas will fit a 330, JVFan and Buckman (our Calgary friends) have this exact set up on their 330 as the winter tire. |
