2018 M5???
So the M5 has always been out of my price range. I have the opportunity now to buy a 2018 M5 non competition with 25k miles for $76k. After driving the car I love it, I love the handling, I love the brakes, I love the stock exhaust, which sounded aftermarket, but the salesman assured me it was stock. The vehicle has 3 months of warranty left, and that is a bit scary to drop so much on a vehicle running out of warranty, but from what I have read these vehicles are pretty well built. Everything seemed tip top during the test drive and I would be getting the price I want for my RS5 to be traded in.
Thoughts from the group? https://www.motorwerksbmw.com/invent...rader_listings I have another question though. I owned a 2020 X3M Competition before the RS5 and had a set of winter wheels and tires with that. 255/45/20 with Hakka R3 tires. The tires are made for SUV's, but the wheels could possibly fit as they have the same centerbore of 66.6, both 5x112, with an offset of +35. The rotor sizes are near identical, so I really do think these wheels would fit. The load rating for SUV's is different than sedans at 105T. From what I have read these may be too narrow? I get that this isn't ideal, just wondering if what I have already could potentially work. |

Looking at the carfax, it looks decent, no issues, I would want to find out more about that 3rd owner if possible, 2200 miles in 13 months is a little suspect. But could be accurate, I would check if there is any evidence of the mileage blocker or whatever, not sure if those a a big thing, but may be worth checking into the mileage a bit. Since this is at a BMW dealer I imagine they've gone through it and warrantied anything that would have needed it. But I would ask them.
Yes, these cars are a bit better in terms of reliability than the f10, and miles better than the E60. There are a couple issues that seem to be common, that would be under warranty... -the coolant reservoir leaks many times needs to be replaced and if not caught, can leak down and cause issues with fuel injectors (I think) -I had issues with both vanos solenoids, easy quick fix (not sure how common it is) -I think others have mentioned fuel pump issues. -other than those I think its mainly some minor annoyances here and there. -I think there could be 1-2 more common issues, but a search on the forum would show that as these threads pop up once a week or so. If you leave it alone, and don't mess with tunes, or major mods they seem to do well, even some with mods do well. But if you have the option to add an extended warranty I would, even if aftermarket. Or if you can add mechanical break down insurance (not sure, usually stipulations on miles, and how soon after you buy it you're allowed to) 76,000.00 is an OK deal, you're not stealing it, but I wouldn't say you're overpaying either. It has B&W, which is nice to have. Since its BMW dealer try to talk them into certifying it. Instead of taking $ off the price, that can be a decent alternative, and extend the warranty a bit. But I would add the extended warranty, unless its an absurd price for the warranty. |

I have a 2019 (factory built 2018) std M5 bought new.
Now at 31000 miles. Its been faultless. I just took out a years extended warranty from BMW UK (about $1000 equivalent) I'd be trying to get that same warranty thrown in with the deal if you. Best car I've ever owned. |

Both my 2018 and 2022 M5 have been basically trouble free. One emissions part on the 2018 replaced under warranty. Otherwise tip top.
Check the coolant expansion tank on the top of the engine and make sure there is NO leakage. Leakage from this part has grenaded a couple of motors because there are cylinders below it, but it mostly just causes trouble with the coil packs. It's the Achilles heel of the F90. Shawn |

If you can’t DIY, maintenance and repairs will be expensive. $76k is not a great price since I paid $78k for a CPO 2018 with 24k miles about 18 months ago and it had just 1 previous owner and 2 years of warranty. Car had several options with MSRP of $115k. But car prices may have continued to increase after I bought so maybe my experience is no longer valid. I thought I was paying a few thousand too much due to Covid supply issues.
255/45/19 may also be taller than the 265/40/19 BMW recommends but they are so skinny there should be no fitment issues unless the wheel offsets are significantly different. I think M5 offsets are very high 20s but forget the exact number. |

I went from a B9 RS5 to an M4 to a M5. The M5 isn't a head turner the way the RS5 is but it's a much better, more luxurious and faster car.
As for your wheel and tyre combo, you're really not going to be off to a good start with this kind of car if you start shoe-horning wheels and tyres that aren't designed for it. You don't mention the width of the wheels you have but if they were the same at the M5 wheels (9.5J front and 10.5J rear) then they would be 7mm/9mm closer in to the strut front and back. It all depends on the wheel widths. |
