I dont think so. Unless im mistaken. I dont think you can do that. Having seat belt off you can drive but not with the door open to my knowledge. But I could be wrong.... now I want to check
Exactly, put the seatbelt on and try with the door open you are welcome
I was going to try in the morning but it looks like this has been confirmed. Thanks! Could have saved me a bunch of aggravation this morning!

I also wish either the BMW Genius I spoke to knew this info.
I've knocked the Geniuses more than once on the forum. After I read your post, I thought to myself, "wow, they actually knew something that was helpful for once." I momentarily thought I had perhaps been too harsh in the past. Then I saw euro*'s solution and it was proved to me yet again that forum members always best the Geniuses/SAs. I understand they did help you fix your issue in a pinch, but, as you said, they should have known the method the forum member suggested.

My first impulse was to post a message here as who knows these cars better than us!

I would have been waiting a bit longer for my answer, however! 🙂

Agreed that in your situation, you needed them, and my previous comment notwithstanding, they did in fact help you.

The forum ALWAYS bests BMW/Genius/SAs, however!

EDIT* ill be god damned.... euro* is right!!! Put your seatbelt on, and you can put in gear. Still stupid however.... But at least theres a 1/2 solution.

OP: put your seatbelt on next time!!! LOL
Lol I wasn't sure if it still worked on f90, but it did on all previous versions of bmws

I've driven my car with the door open no seatbelt. Usually in the garage.

Frustrating to say the least, glad you were able to get the car to move. Surprised the Genius didn’t know about the seatbelt fix since it’s right in the manual:

We have some jackable dollies that can go in front and behind of each wheel. Then you can move the car around in its own space. On another note, if the exhaust is pointed out the garage, just simply opening the garage door should be enough to take care of the fumes. I do this all the time. Glad you got it worked out though.

I know, thanks man. I have an irrational fear of this for some reason so I try to pull the car out when it's running.

On another note, thank you all for not flaming me too badly on this one. Y'all are ok.

I guess we can file this one under "quirks and features" I think it makes a lot of sense now that I understand how it works. I can see someone (me) leaving the car in gear as they exit since you don't have to physically move a gear lever to put it in park. A friend of mines mom actually met her demise that way.

In my OP I said I thought I might have a slow leak in one of my tires. Finally took it in today and they're replacing my left rear tire. Glad I purchased that tire/wheel coverage!

Thanks everyone! This concludes my portion of this PSA, carry on.
I'm bummed our paths haven't crossed yet! I keep hoping to come across your Snapper Rocks Blue ride around town but you've managed to evade me up to this point!

I got a new rear tire as well a few months ago thanks to that same purchase. Definitely worth the price! Stupid nails/screws!
