M5 extended warranty options

I am coming up on 4 years of ownership of my 18 M5 next month (August) and I have been researching various different extended warranty companies for pricing and term lengths. My M5 is a weekend car since I have a take home vehicle from work since 2009. The current mileage is 10,433 miles. Below are companies I have contacted and the pricing they provided me.

BMW Platinum (provided by Steve Thomas BMW forum member pricing) Only adds 1,2, or 3 years after the factory warranty expires since the time starts when the car was first put into service.

Time starts when the vehicle was placed into service.
60 months /75k miles $3850
60 months/100k miles $4300

72 months/75k miles $4650
72 months/100k miles $5150

84 months/75k miles $5400
84 months/100k miles $6550

Axiom Platinum
60 months/50k miles $3642 (5 years from today and an additional 50k miles on top of what the vehicle currently has)

Factory Discount Warranty (Troy Dietrich), found this company via the M3 (F80) portion of this forum:

Fidelity Platinum w/ $250 deductible: Time/mileage are additive and effective from the current date and miles.
3 yr / 36K - $3354.00
4 yr / 48K - $4986.00
5 yr / 60K - $6384.00
6 yr / 60K - $7237.00
6 yr / 72K - $7981.00
6 yr / 85K - $8653.00
6 yr / 100K - $9836.00
7 yr / 70K - $8146.00
7 yr / 100K - $11319.00

I visited my local dealer and they gave me the following pricing for Easy Care (Total Care) w/ $250 deductible:
5yrs / 60k - $5,982
5yrs / 75k - $6,426
5yrs / 100k - $7,422
6 yrs / 60k - $6,125
6yrs / 75k - $6,710
6yrs / 100k - $8,088
7yrs / 75k - $6,710
7yrs / 100k - $8,088
10yrs / 150k - $16,531

YAA (Your Auto Advocate) found on You Tube. This MBI quote has you covered for 5 years / 60,000 miles*:

*This means 5 years from the day you purchase the MBI OR when you reach the stated miles on your odometer. Whichever comes first.

SENTINEL MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN INSURANCE, $0 deductible

Is this showing BMW Platinum has the lowest price for 84 months? Do these platinum warranties pretty much cover everything outside?

Is the BMW Platinum 60 months and mileage starting the day you purchase the warranty or years and mileage showing on vehicle?

I'm gonna be real with you... in 4 years what broke on the car? What do you expect will break on the car later? How long do you plan to keep the car? With how much you don't drive the thing I don't think you need a warranty for the drivetrain, maybe for the electronics? But 100% not the drivetrain. I'd just put the 6k you're gonna spend on a warranty in some stocks or something get some interest on it and take it out should you ever need a repair.

84 months only gives 3 more years of warranty since the time starts when the vehicle was placed into service.

One of my concerns is the coolant tank that some drivers are saying are leaking and destroying coils. This has got to be one of the hottest engines temperature wise I have ever encountered since the early 80's when I started driving. I also feel that buying the extended warranty and if I were to sell the M5 in the future it would be a selling point since almost everyone states they would not own a M car outside a warranty. I did a purchase on the M5 and I paid it off last year so it may stay with me for some time.

Well... coils are what 20$ a piece? An expansion tank is 100-200... labor 200 to get it replaced at an indy, that's significantly cheaper than a warranty. Just my opinion since in 4 years you barely drove the car. If you really are concerned I'd get a longer duration shorter mileage warranty but just keep in mind third party warranties don't like to pay out in my experience. But others have said fidelity was good so just do your due diligence on the company you decide go go with and make sure you read all the terms lol.

Personally I'd be more concerned with soft close doors failing, speakers failing, water screwing something up if you have a sunroof and drains get clogged, airbag sensor failing, sos battery and other electronics as well as plastic pieces becoming brittle such as hoses and lines in the engine bay. But gotta see what the warranty covers and what they consider wear and tear.

I appreciate the input. I have been reading reviews for certain 3rd party extended warranty providers. Axiom can use like new parts and I am passing on them even though they are the cheapest. My local BMW dealer service department had no advise what so ever on any issues with 3rd party extended warranty issues and directed me to the finance department. I read the issues that some of the members on this forum have experienced with their M5’s and most like me remain silent due to no issues. But I am the exception to the rule with a low mileage M5.
If there was not a ridiculous mark-up on the 2022 Porsche 911 GTS (40k at two dealers in SOCAL) and both sold I would have made the transition from the M5 and this would be a moot point. The car market is crazy at least in SOCAL.
More then likely I will go with the BMW warranty for an additional 3 years for the piece of mind that if something were to break, I should not have any issue with it getting repaired. Part of the reason for this post was to advise other M5 owners what the cost are associated with extended warranties.

Ouch 40k markup?? You might need to shop out of state lol

Yeah with how low your miles are I'm honestly torn with what to recommend, because on the one hand you shouldn't have any issues and on the other it's still a high end car and they all have issues🤣🤣

We went Easy Care and talked with many dealerships in our area who indicate that it is one of the best/easiest to work with.

Confirmed this info by both Finance Managers and Service Managers from 5 different dealerships.

Two of the dealers use Easy Care today, 2 switched to Fidelity, 1 is their internal warranty, but all recommend Easy Care for being easy, efficient, and little to no BS.

I did the BMW 7 years/100k miles with Steve Thomas BMW. Thank you for the referal/info. It's literally extending the 4yr 50k miles coverage. Why would you go with a third party provider, just wondering?

The only thing I dont like is the BMW warranty only extends the warranty to a maximum of 3 years from the end of the factory warranty. Since BMW warranties start at the time the vehicle goes into service.
I was looking for a warranty that would provide an additional 5 years of coverage once the factory warranty (4 years) expires, hence the reason for considering the 3rd party warranty.

Because of length of time (adds based on start date vs BMW which is in service date of car), it is transferrable to another owner (good for resale and new owner if we sell car), it covers wheel/tire damage, etc and is slightly more comprehensive in terms of coverage. All for very similar costs.

We have essentially a 10 year, 110k mi warranty.

Mehhhhh. Had easy care on my 550i and with two big issues they were worthless. Turbo cooling system cropped out and they got out of it as it had rubber lines. Valve guide seals went and for life of me can’t remember but there was some other weasel technicality that got them out. BMW dealers by and large push this program hence the positive feedback you’re getting. They used to approve repairs to Indies and dealers over the phone, now want rep to look at it and save all parts. Slows process way down. I would not purchase easy care again based on my experience

Route 66 sold through credit unions is supposedly very good and economical relatively. They didn’t cover M cars last I checked though don’t know if that’s changed
