Running Temperature

Can you tell me what is your normal running temperature is at? I installed the CSF Charge coolers and I don't remember running this hot. It's only 7 Celsius outside (44 F) and I am at 120C
Thanks

That is engine oil temperature. 120c/248F is normal.

Thanks everyone.
I have the CSF charge coolers installed now and later this month going to finalize a Carbahn Stage 2 tune with sensor and coolers. Will post results when I get them.

The CSF charge coolers are for the intercooler system and are unrelated to the engine operating temperature. Early M5 have a 100C engine coolant thermostat that results in the engine operating at about 120C. Later M5 have a 90C thermostat that gives closer to 110C temperature on the gauge when hot. Maybe change to the later thermostat if you think your engine is running too hot. I bought one and will be changing mine.

EDIT— I am not responding correctly here, the OP’s picture is of the oil can with temp flag above so that is oil temp not coolant. But oil cooler is under car and intercoolers are on the sides. Still, there seems to be a difference in oil temps on gauges of early and late cars. Not sure why. Some say it may depend on whether the engine is in efficiency mode or sport mode, which makes sense. I drive mostly in efficiency, but will look at the gauge while in sport more closely.

Is it a problem to not change it if you have an earlier model m5? Surely concerned it could lead so damage running too hot.

no. 100C is normal for most cars. 90c is just better

This is always a good read. I look at it periodically but there is so much info that I can’t remember all of it. Covers a lot of topics that periodically surface in the forum (no auxiliary battery on the M5, the different cooling systems, the lithium battery, fluid change intervals, etc).

Are you saying that F90 LCI the running temp is 90c while pre lci 110c? Please clarity this because mines pre lci runs at 110c

Not technically the same engine, a few things different, but I concur 120c is a bit hot my 22 m5 runs at 210f which is about 100c, and my f10 m5 (pre lci) was running anywhere from 200-220 f depending on how I was driving.

The gauge in the car is off. ISTA reports around 210F on pre-LCI.
