MNoob I'm really sorry this has happened to you and your family. Hopefully they prosecute him to the fullest extent possible. Plus - maybe some upside - you can always re-create your garage as a man-cave? (maybe it already was). At least no one was hurt - all the other stuff can be fixed or replaced.

Thank you everyone for the well wishes. We've moved from 'initial shock WTF just happened', to 'this is going to be a major hassle'. My son tried to use the incident to get out of school. In character, so seems that he's doing fine. He went to school.

So…… Here's the new tidbits I have. Still no police report yet. Hopefully today.

They found the guy not too far away. He took off at high speed, blowing stop signs (all residential area). Pursuit was stopped and he was last seen going 130+ past the highschool (a mile from our house). Helicopter dispatched and he was stopped not too long after. Arrested and car towed with "major front end damage". :

We had no idea all that shit went down. We didn't hear a helicopter, which would have been up while we were all outside at 2am. Maybe with the fire trucks and neighbors gathered we weren't really paying attention. I suppose we were preoccupied.

Crazy shit.

Sorry to hear this man. People do definitely suck. Some idiot today swiped my back bumper of my brand new M5 CS that doesn't even have 1000 miles on it yet. I've been in a constant foul mood all day.

Man that is some crazy stuff! I know you are feeling it right now, but thankfully no one was physically injured (i.e., your family), and hopefully one day, probably a little ways down the road—after everything gets replaced or repaired and you’re made whole again—this is going to be one wild story to tell a bro over beers!

Yep sure do. It better be 100%.

I am taking it to a shop recommended to me by the guy I get all my BMW's from so I trust they'll do a good job.

Still pissed about the whole thing, though. I'll update this thread with pics in a few weeks once its all done.

update: kid was driving his dad's car, and does have insurance. we met with an attorney to cover our bases, but likely no need.

this kid just took his life on an alternate path for a while. dumb, pointless, reckless, a waste. he could have killed some one.

"We're from a lovely family, accidents happen, my little Jimmy would never want to hurt anyone, he was just stressed that he didn't get an A in pottery class. He's an upstanding member of society he's an eagle scout he doesn't deserve this, it's punishment enough he had to go through the stress and blah blah of hitting that gentleman's house, it's taken a huge toll on his mental health and he's gonna need a therapist now and he most likely will have ptsd for the rest of his life. He's the future of our country he doesn't deserve to be expelled over a simple mistake blah blah blah.

I mean heck back at my college there was a frat that you had to r*pe a girl to get in like they'd literally pick one and you had to do it else you were out and they'd film the whole thing, word got out, the frat kids went to trial, a few days later charges were dropped life back to normal never heard of or saw those girls again (probably went to go live off a nice retirement fund courtesy of the parents). Sadly that's just how our society works.

yup. i figure a good attorney will negotiate the charges down significantly. definitely not my field and thankfully i have no experience here, so what do i know.

salt in wound: i put a huge scratch in the front bumper yesterday backing out. one of the broken landscaping lights had a sharp edge and i caught it. peeled the paint off.
