2020 iDrive 7 update OTA?

Those of you with 2020 M5s with iDrive 7. Have you received your over the air update yet? They said it would come in July. I'm hoping the update addresses some features the car was advertised to do, but not functioning in my M5. For example automatic parking and some related to "Hello BMW" functions that don't work even though the tutorials tell you it's possible. I think they put in a half baked iDrive7 system in the 2020s.

For example when you say "Hello BMW, increase temperature" she should do it for you. The onboard tutorial even tells you the exact phrase to say.. when I say it, she tells me i'm sorry that function is not available.

For the automatic parking, once it finds you a parking spot it displays a gray box with the P in the middle. According to everything I've seen the box should be red. When I try and click on the box nothing happens.

I have a 2019 M5 and 2020 X7. Both auto park without issue since purchase but obviously the X7 is the only one that does the hey BMW stuff, which is neat.

I believe anyone with a 2020 M5 with idrive 7 have the Personal Assistant feature.

At this time, the MY20 F90 has a slightly limited version of the personal assistant, as does the X3/X4, G30 and G31. For example, it cannot adjust climate control/heated seats. However, it still has other functions, like radio station, ambient light colour, etc.

The MY20 F90 will most likely not receive OTA updates, due to hardware constraints (i.e: It requires SP18 (Service Pack 18) for OTA updates, and the MY20 F90 is on SP15). There is conflicting information on OTA updates, with even BMW's software website claiming our vehicles will be updated automatically after inputting the VIN.

However, if you visit your dealer, they can update your car to the latest version, and you will get features like Android Auto, and a few other new things exclusive to iDrive 7 (I haven't got this update yet myself, but will report back what new features are available to us).

The F90 LCI will have all the features of other BMWs like the G20 and G05 as it will have SP18.

Love how it was released after the G05 but comes with less features such as remote start and all of this stuff you just referred too. Just odd.

are software updates at the dealer always going to be applied when you bring in the car for general maintenance, or is it more of a "please update me to the latest" kind of request?

i can see it going either way, with safety related updates automatically being applied, but others, not so much

They should until at least warranty us up then I think they stop unless they charge you. Like my X5 doesn't have the latest update cuz I don't want to pay the $225 coding fee.

Good information!! So odd why they would provide a stripped down version of the personal assistant on the 2020 M5. My car is at the dealership now and I'll make sure to pass along this information.

Update!!

It turns outs they were able to apply the software update to my 2020 M5C but in the process Discovered a bug in which no matter what drive mode you were in, the instrument cluster would always show 4WD. A future release of the software is supposed to fix that, for now they release the vehicle to me and said they would notify me when the update was out and I could come back.

I now have Android auto and I noticed that the M view for the heads up display has changed. Not the long tach bar that took up a lot of real estate. It's compact now. The instrument cluster is still that crappy view and not the M view that the latest cars are getting.

That is the new "reduced height" version of the M view. You can change it back to the normal M view should you wish in the display settings.

Ahhh thanks for clearing that up!! All my settings have changed and now I need to spend time digging through menu options to make sure everything is back to normal.

Oh thank god. Seeing that immediately ensured I was not going to be updating anytime soon lol

Quick question, I have the new 2020 M5 with iDrive 7 and new dash display but was wondering if the M5 instrument cluster can be configured like the new M8 with the central digital speedo flanked by the Rev counter.

Nope and it's not looking promising that it will come out in the future.
