I know this question has been asked to death, but just want to ask again for fresh insight. Yesterday I placed a deposit and order for a new 21' M5 Comp, I am trying to decide if I should add CCB's to the order. I've never had CCB's on my previous M's so not even sure what I'd be missing, if anything (besides brake dust). Any suggestions are helpful..

DallasLife let me know how this turn out. I live in the Dallas area and am considering the M5. My sureness of purchasing the M5 has somewhat decreased after reading all the negative comments here about horrible brake noise and those who will only lease the car because they are so afraid of long-term reliability.
I have always bought cars and typically keep and drive them a long long time. I would rather a vehicle I could depend on rather than one with extreme performance that I never own and thus have a car payment for the rest of my life. My wife drives a M550i that has been trouble free, but due to what I have read here now I am considering Toyota Tundra!!! By the way, from which dealer are you purchasing the car? |

To OP, I have a 2019 M5 with the steel brakes and I installed the aftermarket pads and I have no brake noise and I am very happy. That said, if I were to purchase a new M5 and money was no issue I would get the carbon-ceramic brakes.

Which pads did you install? Do they have the same braking power and feel as OEM?

I've been pleasantly surprised by the iron brakes on my M5. Love them. Lots of power, good feel (wish I could say that about the steering) and no noise if you bed them properly.
My wheels have OptiCoat Pro Plus on them and I use Outlast after every wash, so brake dust isn't bad at all. I have PCCBs on my Porsche, so I know the allure. I don't think you can go wrong either way on the M5. |

Aftermarket brake pads from ACG Automotive (858) 633-1017 X 704. They feel great and they do not squeak. Make sure you bed them in properly right after installation or you will not get max performance.

It's like most modern electrically assisted steering-no "feel" but direct. Not something that's bothersome in any way. (Also steering in any other mode except for comfort is too artificially heavy for some reason).

I had steel in my previous 4 M cars and switched to CCB when I custom ordered my 2018 M5. 2.5 years later, I'll never have another car without CCB. No dust, crazy long life, no noise, exceptional performance.

My M5 Comp that I ordered just now was the first car that I speced in CCB's. I went with them just due to the fact that they last much longer, and essentially don't make break dust. That being said, I was aware of that CCB's make a lot of noise, and even on regular steel breaks on my AMG's of the past they all made noise that I got used to. If the CCB's don't make noise, it'll be a plus, but if it does, then I won't mind.

What new insight from the half dozen threads updated within the last 6 months are you expecting exactly? They haven't changed the CCBs. You get zero brake dust and better stopping power. Period. This isn't a confusing topic. No one here can justify you spending $8k on them. Either you can afford them or you can't. If you can then no reason not to get them. If you can't then don't. It's just brake dust. Gotta think of it as black and white. Yes you can. No you can't.
