The guys who have both M5 and S63 should not need to worry about the cost of repairs. They probably even have 3rd and 4th cars to drive if they break the first two.

He's talking about the s63 BMW motor, not the S63 AMG… the kook a few posts back threw the AMG pic up to be a silly.

Dude the version you're gonna get with the x6m is going to be the most reliable version. It's like v4 or some shit. The problems with the older versions are resolved and don't apply here.
Why don't you lease the car to begin with and if you don't like it, return it, if you do like it then buy it out at lease end. Just a thought.

You came here with preconceived notions regarding S63 reliability issues, and didn't want to hear what members on the forum with first hand experience are telling you. If your sole purpose in posting was uncovering myriad S63 engine failures among our members cars, you've failed to do so.
Maybe it's time for you to move on. |

You: I want an X6M with S63 engine, scared it may be unreliable, what do you guys think? Us: Very reliable, owned many sub-versions across many platforms. You: No, they're unreliable. Us: Please provide some examples/links of stock motors blowing. You: They're out there, Google them. Us: Good talk. Glad you asked us since you have already made up your mind they are unreliable. It's a high-strung turbo V8, so take that for what you will, but realize it's been refined since the original S63, which was arguably quite unreliable. Among other modern performance-tuned V8s on the market, I'd argue it's one of the more reliable now days. Ymmv.

I've had the V8 in my previous car (not sure if it was the S63 though), an F85 X5M, and drove it until 95.000 km without any engine issue.
I had to add 1 liter of oil between two services, otherwise everything was fine. My M5 is slowly reaching 50.000 km and 4 years, and I never had to add oil, neither encountered any engine related issue. |

How old are you? You still a teenager or something? Wow.
I was going to chime in and give you my 2 cents, having owned numerous BMW's, and numerous people in my family with them, including the S63. Now, I don't care to help you. Sounds like this is the wrong car for you. I personally, after reading your comments and your confirmation bias, hope you don't get the car. |

Sorry though, because one own a couple high end cars does not mean that 'price of repair' is no option. Mike

This tread is getting tense.....
37,000 miles on my S63, so far no major issues. Had to replace one coil pack last year. Warranty is your friend so DON"T tune your car.... Mike

I know this article is related to the N63, but it is a good read:

Traded it for 2022 M5 CS. No problems. I read all this garbage years ago. The engine is nearly bulletproof at stock tune if you don't mess with it. Good fuel, good oil, all good. Tune it, mess with it, eh, you can have some problems. Shawn |
