High Metal Fibers in Brake Pads
If your brake pads are fairly new, you could be experiencing noise from metal fibers in the brake pads. Many companies manufacture brake pads with a high consistency of metal fibers, some that might end up being close to each other, which create a squealing noise. Brake pads will typically wear past this point if you ride on them long enough.
If you've been hard on your M5 brakes or have been using them for a while (25,000-60,000 miles), its possible that you were experiencing loud noises from a pad wear indicator per: https://nubrakes.com/blog/7-signs-of-unsafe-brakes/ |

As you mentioned, Porterfield recommends regular driving. But, with what I did, it gets the process a little faster.

Did you purchase the semi-metallic or ceramic ones?
The backing plate may be vibrating against the caliper as well. You can use some tacky material to soften that. I'd lube the contact points on the pads as well. You can find out more issues here: https://www.brakestoyou.com/post/5-s...our-brake-pads |

For what it's worth, the stock high performance, high metallic content pads on the M essentially glaze over from even a day's worth of normal city driving (how we all mostly drive these cars) This essentially creates a millimeter thin layer on the pad (though sometimes it's both on the pad and the rotor, depending on pad content) that reduces friction (and heat), absorbing some of the bite against the rotor, resulting in the noise, especially at low speed. The pads are designed to handle repetitive beat downs on the track; just from sound alone in the first week of driving my LCI M5 I could tell these are very high iron content pads, which is great for long term wear (relatively speaking) when getting stomped on. It also means when you're not stomping on them, they will just glaze more quickly.
Get out on a totally empty on-ramp up to 70-80MPH and straight up stand on the brakes, panic stopping to 20-30MPH, it will burn the glaze layer right off the pads (and rotors, if present) and give you anywhere from a couple of days to a week of noise free operation. Unfortunately you'll have to rinse and repeat unless you swap to a lower iron content pad, which will be more quiet, but also wear even faster than the semi-weekly stomp dance. Fun times with race car brakes, glad I got the dealer to throw in the extra maintenance package that includes brakes for the full 3 year/36K period!

Shame to see that these pads were not the solution for some regarding removing the squealing sound. I've always thought that sound came from the back of the pads rubbing on the metal hence the glue or solvent used to coat the bad side of the pads themself. Wondering if anyone has experimented with that to help remove the squealing. The stock pads work well just squeal at low speed stopping which is annoying.

I've read this thread from start to finish, but I'm still not entirely clear on if everyone is talking about CCB brake squeal or metal brake squeal? I've noticed my CCBs have started squealing at low speed, easy braking. I haven't had to brake hard for a week or more, so assume it's dust build up on the pads that I just need to wear off.

brake squeal fix
I have read all the posts regarding the brake squeal issue. Has anyone found a permanent solution to this problem. Including the porterfield pads from acg automotive. Please advise.

Both are receiving good feedback. My brother has the EBC's on his 19' M5C and has been very pleased with reduced dust and zero noise. EBC's been around for a long time and the pads I've used in the past have been as advertised. Good Luck

About 8-10k miles id say. It started right before winter and I'm at 13k now averaging less than 8k miles a year.

I have 25K miles on porterfield's, then another 5K after replacing the rear. Zero brake noise.
I got on them, hard, when first installed...numerous times. Not a squeak after that. GL
