So the M5 is faster, it sounds better, yet he thinks the amg wins

I don't care about the subjective stuff like Matt's opinion regarding appearance. I do care about performance particularly as follows.
(1) I am quite happy to see that he was not complaining about inconsistent launch control, which may indicate that the LCI has sorted out that issue. (2) For straight-line acceleration, the M5 posted some excellent numbers and clearly out classed the E63s. Unfortunately, I have to agree with Matt that the steering on the M5 provides very little feedback. I have found that increasing the tire pressure as suggested by BMW for high-speed driving does provide a bit more feedback. However, still not enough. The initial reviews of the CS claim great feedback which raises the question, what is different other than the tires? My other gripe with the LCI (I haven't driven a non-LCI so I don't know if this issue exists there) is the brake feel. The brake pedal is too soft and the brakes are too grabby at low speed which makes modulation difficult. This is with the steel brakes. Again, I have no experience with the carbon brakes, but I have read this criticism for them as well. Overall, I really enjoy my M5, but I would love to improve both steering and brake feel. Regardless, I am happier with the M5 than I would have been with the E63s. |

He has a hate boner for BMW ever since he had the RS6 as a loaner car. Every measurable test shows the M5 beating RS6 and E63 yet he chooses the other cars for intangibles such as "soft suspension and cooler looking RS6" and "more feel and soul E63".
I love my M5 and find that it has plenty of character and "soul", he sounds like he's just regurgitating what every basic reviewer complains about things like steering feel. It's not THAT bad, I literally own a 987.2 Cayman S and the M5 is almost there and is very direct. Never had an issue launching it either (LCI). |

To each their own, and perspective drives the comparisons. The Cayman has zero feel compared to a to a Ferrari Daytona, and so on and so forth.

Grow up dude. I owned one for 3 years and a 991.1 GT3 as well. Just like Handful said, it's all perspective. My tincan Evos had a lot more feel than the Porsches too.

We know both of these cars are plenty fast enough, so my choice would be on how each of them made me feel when I was driving it.
I drove an RS4 a while back and that did nothing for me, so I bought a C63S, which is not perfect, but makes me smile every time I drive it.

I'm a BMW fan, but the MB just looks like it's on another level. The M5 is so understated, which used to be cool when there wasn't much competition, but with competition, you need to do more at this price point. IMHO.

Carwow is not wrong that bmw nowadays reserves the "perfect" handling for their limited CS models. For everything else, you know they are not the best they could be.

But with that said, understandable why he picked the E63. It's not always about stat sheet like many people love to say on this forum. For him, there was a sense of occasion and a feel when he drove the E63 that lacked in the M5. That seemed to be the x-factor. |

Why so?
I have always found him to say it as it is and he offers an opinion. Just because you may not agree with him, doesn't make him a moron.

Both these cars have their strengths and faults. In my opinion the Bimmer's only fault is its numb steering. I suppose for Matt Watson, that's enough to crown the Merc the winner. Other journalists still like the M5 better.
Personally, outside the M2 and G20 3-series, I just cannot warm up to BMW's EPS. Even in the 3er, it's barely passable.

New e class is just too soft looking
Lines are too smooth Nowhere as aggressive as previous gen M5 looks a bit dated. Performance speaks for itself Interior, never likes merc interior, like a woman's car, same as c class

I own an F80 comp with MPE and also my C63S. I know dynamically, the BMW is better, but I love the engine - and sound - in the 63 so use it far more. For me to choose between the M5 and E63, I would need to drive both for a week. At the time of writing, I don't know which I would choose. Maybe I have got old overnight, but with them both being so quick already, a couple of the tenths quicker to 60, wouldn't matter to me.

I haven't driven the E63, but I've driven C63. I find the steering to be heavy but vague as well.
