Fix how? By replacing the coolant tank with new reference tank which also fails?

This implies that they think the new part is a valid fix. I still haven't seen convincing information that the new tank fails (vs dealer overfill and cap venting which collects along the seam and looks like a tank leak).

My build date is outside the range but I'm still going to keep a close eye on my tank.

BMW needs to extend the warranty to cover any issue resulting from failure of these tanks. I do not see an action to correct the issue in cars already sold. I have not yet experienced a problem on my 2021, but believe it is highly likely given what I have read here.

Interesting. Mine is sitting at the dealer now, dropped off this morning, as fuel injectors need to be replaced after the expansion tank was replaced about 9 months ago. Since the stop sale includes parts, what happens if your car is at the dealer for this issue? Would they not be allowed to fix it? It’s not drivable as is the way it’s misfiring…I hope I don’t have to drive the stripped X3 loaner for the foreseeable future…

... and mine is undergoing a $17k full engine rebuild due to a leaking tank prior to my ownership! (Details on one of the many other threads concerning these tanks!).

I thought the M550i also having similar problem, however, their expansion tank location is better than in the M5.

Excuse my ignorance, but where is it located on the M550i?

I just ordered an expansion tank a couple of days ago from ECS and then got an email saying it was delayed. At least BMW finally acknowledge the issue.

In front of the shock tower where it is cooler, which helps with pressure. But if the problem is a glue defect between the top and bottom of the tank then it may be a problem for other than the M5.

i'm guessing they won't replace it for free if you're outside of warranty

Following, but if they identified the tank as an issue (which it is) I don’t see how they can get away from not covering it even out of warranty. There are lots of proof this tank fails regardless of the engine/vehicle conditions/driving habits.

I agree! I'm extremely surprised with this many people having problem and they haven't done anything really. This is a step forward but probably a year out for anything as meaningful as a recall.

I have been with Audi for almost 20 years. They are extremely quick on recalls. However, I do notice they got a bunch of lawyers watching closely on all their forums and repairs from independent shops. You constantly getting lawyers notices in the mail trying to make them do this or that. Nothing for BMW!

I just called my service advisor. My car was the 9/22 build date. He told me he sees SIB 17 03 24 attached to my VIN. "We are waiting for BMW to release the repair approval. once they do you will receive another notice from BMW to bring to dealership".

I currently have a 22 and the tank was replaced about two months ago and it's already starting to show signs around the cap of leaking again. I'm sure once the weather warms up more the tank seams will go just like in the past. This is my second F90, both have had plugs, coil packs, and of course the coolant tanks swapped due to the coolant tank leaking. It's such a simple thing that is creating a ton of warranty work at the dealer level you would think they would've corrected this several years ago now! On a side note my wife's GLE 350 now has a coolant tank leaking lol!

Just had the exact same talk with my dealer.
I am out of warranty now, hopefully it’s covered. If not I will just foot the bill.
