First Wave Over?

Having been a new owner of several generations of cars, I notice several different waves of owners. The F90 is phasing out, and the next gen phasing in.

I see the second wave coming. The enthusiasts who enjoy a high priced but high performance and high quality performance car. The users who "sort out" the maintenance and early hardware problems. I've been through the second, third, and fourth waves with other cars (fourth waves are the absolute tried and true diehards who leave blood sweat and tears on the wheels and drivetrain keeping it on the road or track).

I welcome the newcomers and the changes. I'll miss the first wave folks regularly (just as other cars), because they often provide essential insight into the long term hope of the car.

Great thread, Shawn, and very well said!

Though a G90 DD may very well be in the cards for me, I do not as of now believe my F90 is going anywhere, even if so. I hope I’ll still be in the first wave and still on the F90 side of the house, even if it means splitting my time between here and there.

I too have my second F90. Original 18 straight M5. Could not resist M5 CS though. But pretty sure I’ll be keeping that.

I’m down for a G99 if local dealership can get. Deciding on options if available.

I’ll be honest .. I’m on the fence. Like you, I will keep my current F90 MC5 but I’m less than certain on the G99.

Depends at least a little on price and electric range. $162,000 like the XM, if only 20-25 miles of range, I think that’s not a good choice. Give it 44 miles of range, maybe. 44 miles and $132,000, I’m in.

I don’t know what wave I technically am but I put a lot of miles on my cars….25k per year and in harsh climates at times (winter snow and cold).

My M5 was flawless the 2 years I had it from when it was new….I sold it with like 46k on the clock.

I think the only issue I had was the stupid antenna thing in the back that’s common….the emergency call malfunction or whatever. They just had to replace the battery and it was good to go.

Best thing is I didn’t need to do much maintenance on the car. It never needed a brake job. It was tires here and there and that’s it besides the obvious normal service maintenance.

I would have bought another F90 but I knew there would be a new 5 series coming and I didn’t want to be stuck paying crazy prices (which they were summer of 22) and then have correction hit along with a hit due to a new model.

I think they are really great and solid cars long term….

I've been first wave on all my cars but it is weird to be buying the last model year instead of the first. I've been following this forum for several years and it is very different than the CTS-V ones I was on. So much more leasing and high turnover here. But also a lot more members because of much higher sales volume.

I also read the F10 forum to get and idea of things that might be issues for us in the future.

First wave checking in.

However, once I read this thread, I knew the second wave had arrived. https://f90.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2036224

Lol, I think for this particular case he was just really having difficulties understanding how heat and DA affects turbo charged cars. The S63 hot V also isn’t doing him any favors in those conditions but I’m also the type of person extensively to scour the forums before asking certain questions.

Will be interesting to see who is still around in 2030!

First wave here (2019 Competition), and now entering the second wave with one of the last 2023’s that I picked up 3 weeks ago. This is my 7th BMW and 5th ///M car. The 2023 is a carbon copy of the 2019. I have never bought the same car, BUT I truly love the F90 platform. Looking forward to many more years of big smiles!!!

Just sold my stock 2020 M5 Comp and am settling in with a 2024 M3 CS. Love it so far!

Thanks to all in this group who were instrumental in my choice of the F90 as well as getting it sorted out!

Sold my M5 CS a few weeks ago. Currently very comfortable in my '24 X7 M60i while I hope/wait for the G99 M5 Touring.

I wasn't the first wave for this model M5, but I was one of the first with the M5 CS.

I'll always be lurking in this forum though.

at the rate I'm driving my 2018 @ 10,000 KM per year
I will still be here for the next ten years, lol.
Kept my previous 3 series for 12, but that one had 240K on it.
And when I went to the dealer to by an oil filter for it. I saw the M5 in the show room and said that's mine and bought it the same day .
