car stalls after starting

2019 noticed lately if i start the car up within maybe 30 -45 minutes of already driven it. It starts and immediately shuts off, when i restart everything is fine. Happens almost everytime so the engine is warm just wondering if anybody else experiences this. Purchased end of December 2020 and rahal mentioned all TSB's were completed. not really worried about it. but just wondering

19' M5C here as well with the same issue just as you describe.

Like TrevorM3 said it is the fuel pump, specifically the low-pressure fuel pump.

The dealer could not duplicate it and refused to change the fuel pump.

My daily commute is only 10-15 minutes so it seldom happens and is somewhat hit or miss as to when it does.

Do a search here and you can find more details .. I've commented on it before.

My lease is almost up so not even going to deal with it as this point.

So the low pressure pump is not kicking in and feeding fuel to the high pressure.. hmm should be a record of that in the ecu.

Keep an eye on your fuel level when it does this. Could be related to low fuel in the tank.

has anyone related this to performance decrease when there is this condition (bad pump)? Or is it just related to only start up?

Yes I was also wondering about this. Anyone have any
Input here if it resulted in a performance decrease of any kind?

Also, is it necessary to have the low pressure fuel pump replaced, if not will it result in any further damage or just mean at times will require 2 start ups to turn on?

I do not believe that it has any performance problems. I think it has to do with the pressure bleeding back off when the car sits so it just fires the fuel that's already at the motor and there's no new fuel there to help.

Mine use to do it here and there and I recently had all the injectors on the one side replaced and they blamed the issue on that. Now it does it every single time my car sits for 2-3 hours. EVERY TIME. It goes to bwm next week so Ill update what they decide to do.

19 M5C and same thing happens to me. Told the dealer, they couldn't replicate and thus wouldn't replace anything. Doesn't happen enough to bother me so I just live with it when it happens.

I had the same issue too and I was happy to deal with it but now it does it EVERY time the car sits for over and hour so they should have no problem seeing it and finding some kinda fix

It's the fuel pump in the gas tank. It's going to be about a $600 part. I paid close to $1200 out of pocket on my f90 to dealer as they couldn't replicate it and I got pissed and just paid for it. No performace loss. Same boat now on my f93 with 14k miles and probably would do the same.

Car just spent 3 days at the dealer for that and some other things.

They said they could not duplicate it after having it for 3 days. I took it home 2 hours later it started and shut off and has done it every time I've started it snice. I have about 15-20 videos of it so I will see what my advisor says monday.

Just an update: Finally after sending them 22 videos of the car starting and stalling they decided to change the pump.

It was there 2 times and I explained to them exactly how/when it happens and they said they could not do it. After sending them the videos the shop Forman said O that looks like a fuel pump problem and they did a "fuel pressure test" and found out it was bad. I asked why it wasn't done the last 2 times and received no answer. I guess better late then never.

Was it LP or HP FP that was replaced? Sounds like you had a LP issue.

On my first M5, while highway cruising at about 90 mph with only 1K on the clock, I lost all power, electronics, steering, and fuel delivery out of nowhere, forcing me to attempt to find refuge in an area with no shoulder, with the car unable to move on its own power. It was a HPFP issue and the ordering of parts from Germany and replacement took more than a week. Honestly one of the scariest experiences I've had.

Damm that horrible I would be sacred as shit for sure. I was worried that was going to happen to me as well.

TBH I do not know yet. My advisor sent me a message that they where changing the pump and I was busy at the time and didnt ask but I believe it will be done Monday. I think it was the Low pressure but I'm not sure just in the last couple of days it started getting very sluggish and had no power. So whatever pump it was started to give up.

When I first told them about the issue they started asking me about when I got gas and where I got gas so I had to put a stop to that right away because I knew dam well it wasn't bad gas then when I showed them the camera roll of video's I had they changed the approach real quick.

As Bad as it sounds my factory warranty is done at the end of this month and then it goes into extended. I feel they where trying to push it off to till then. But at least its getting fixed

Some dealerships will try to weasel their way out of everything. Good for you for sticking with it. Hope this gets resolved for you ASAP.

Please let us know what it ends up being!
