Can anyone ease my color concerns? (TPM)
I'm being offered dibs on an M5 coming into my local dealer in about a week or so. I'm trying to decide how picky I can/should be. When spending $130k on a vehicle, you should probably make sure you get what you want right? This inbound M5 has all the options I'm looking for except the full Merino and the blackout wheels. I also didn't want to pay extra for a color as the color normally isn't a big deal for me. That said, I really don't like loud colors. I'd rather blend in and be a bit of a sleeper. I don't really care to draw any additional attention to my car. Therein lies the problem. This allocation being offered me is Twilight Purple Metallic. I've never owned a loud color before and was hoping someone on here has experiences to share that may persuade me one way or the other. So here are my questions:
1. Is Twilight Purple Metallic a highly regarded color by M enthusiasts? I'm asking this to gauge potential resale value. I don't want to commit to this color if 4 years or so from now, I find that nobody likes a purple car. It's a rare color but that doesn't mean it's an unwanted color. 2. Does the full Merino leather make a big difference? I believe it only adds to the back of the front seats, the sides of the center console, and the lower half of the dash. 3. Would the 706M be a worthwhile upgrade from the 789M to complete the black and purple look? I'm not sure how good it will look with a little chrome look on the wheels. In the end, I don't want any regrets. I am hoping all you wonderful people on here could put me at ease. I'm leaning towards getting it especially since it's already at the port and being loaded on the truck next week. I can avoid the 9 month wait time for my build. Thanks guys! |

I mean, I think the answer to the question is simple. Do you want a purple car? Personally, I would not settle for a color I didn't truly want. If your buying a car and only worried about resale, you are doing it wrong.
On the other hand you could always wrap it… |

TP is great color. It can be loud in the sun, but at night, it's subtle.
full leather is a nice upgrade, and one of the few things i think i would have to have in a 4 door 100k sedan. wheels, idk. all i know is i love black wheels, lol |

1). I think Twilight Purple looks great (of course my last car was Daytona Violet). It’s definitely a unique color and you’ll get a ton of compliments. I’ve never had one of my cars get as many compliments as my Daytona Violet M3.
2). Yes Full Merino leather makes a huge difference. I struggled with this option for awhile and after seeing the extended leather option in my color choice (Aragon Brown), I went with the full leather option. Full leather adds a leather dashboard, leather on the door cards by the windows, leather on the bottom of the dashboard, and leather on the center console. 3). Not a big fan of all black wheels but that’s personal preference. .

As for the resale, I never said I was ONLY worried about resale. But one would be ignorant (or too wealthy) to not consider the impact of color on resale. If nobody likes a purple car, it could mean the difference of thousands of dollars 4 years from now. How many people seek out a 4 year old M5, find 20 to choose from, and seek out the purple one? If there is a market for unusual colors, then fine. But if purple makes it not be desirable, I may not want to take the chance. I hope this helps make sense of my concerns. |

Yeah it’s kind of hard to believe that the extended leather option comes with the SensaTec dashboard on a car this expensive.

Personally, i think the extended leather is a must in these cars. The texture difference between the merino and sensatec or plastic or whatever they use very noticeably cheapens the look of the interior.
As for the color, that's a pretty subjective personal choice. If you prefer more subtle colors AND you have resale considerations, metallic purple is probably one of the last colors I'd go for. That being said, some people probably really love it- def gets attention. |

I would go see the color in person. I wasn't sure about Snapper Rocks Blue and was originally looking for a grey color car. Once I got to the dealership and saw it I was in love with the color and had to have it. Always get compliments on it.

That's how I am. In person makes a world of difference. I wish there were more around. I've only seen 1 2022 and 1 2020 period. I do have first right of refusal though. I'm not locked into it yet. We'll see how it goes when I get the notification that it's here. I have a feeling I'm going to be ok with the color...I think. But the full leather option not being there may make the world of difference too.

My friend has a Twilight Purple G80 Comp, and yeah it's not the same, but his build thread has tons of pics in all different lighting conditions.

In reading your thread you yourself indicated you don’t like loud colors or attention. A purple M5 or any car is going to do just that give you unwanted attention. In terms of resale I honestly think you will a niche of future buyers but think you will get a premium on the color in my opinion with 2nd owner used market.
You are spending $130K on a car, if it isnt the color you want wait… byway purple is cool but not sure for a daily driver. |

Purple is definitely not my thing. It would be a deal breaker for me.
Also, the 706 wheels are boat-anchor heavy and detract from performance. I was disappointed to be stuck with them when buying off the lot. However, they are now my "snow wheels" with much lighter aftermarket wheels for my fair weather driving. In any case, think about whether you want to degrade performance by swapping the forged 789 wheels for the much heavier cast 706 wheels. If you want alternatives, check out autotrader.com. There are several M5s around the US and I am sure many of the far away dealers would be happy to sell you a car and either have you fly in to pick it up, or truck it to you (which turns out to be fairly inexpensive). As an example, a few years back I had an AMG delivered to San Francisco from LA and the dealer charged $300 (which I probably could have negotiated away completely if I had wanted to spend the time haggling). |

As for Autotrader, I have been tracking that pretty close. The biggest problem is most dealers are marking these up $10k and my dealer is not. That and it’s so much easier to deal with a local dealer with trade in and such. I bought a Ram 3500, 600 miles away in Utah back in May last year. It was a pain. |

I've always thought louder colors work much better on smaller cars like a 911, Caymen or the like. But it is a cool purple.
I had the extended leather in my F10 and always thought it looked cheap. Like many others have said, it's a must. Search around. Bound to be another allocation somewhere or one that was ordered the buyer backed out on. |

./agreed. I was close to pull the trigger on a non-X3 speced F90 but once I saw all the plastic live I was hell no! Go full leather imo!
I would not mind the color though. Purple is sweet and rare! Not sure about upkeep though. I always aim for grey or silver to keep the OCD at bay😂 |
