I know M mode brings up the tach in the HUD.....but is there a way to get the tach in HUD when it's not on M mode?

The BMW digital dash in general is bad.
There is little information that can be displayed and almost no options to adjust it. One of the few things I miss from the MB C63S I had last was the digital dash, it is a shame BMW can't offer something similar. |

Love em. They match the rest of the tech especially on the level of an M5 over and M3 or M2.

I just switched from an F82 to the M5LCI. My immediate fear was the gauges as I know I would get bored of them and that feeling is starting to creep in already. Personally, my F82 had the best dials. Perfect blend of digital and analogue and looks timeless. Adding to the agony, these new digital cockpit is way too bright for my eyes, especially in the night.

Honestly, I really do enjoy how the LCI has the dual tach options. I hardly use the 2 dial "start up" option. I love the front and center tach option offered in M mode. Once there, the left and right screens also being customizable are VERY cool.
I'm a fan, VERY much so.

F8x had the best gauges IMO. Classy Analogue dials with LED backlight and nicely integrated mini digital cluster at the bottom. Best of both worlds.
Dont mind the LCI Instrument Cluster but if I had a choice, I wouldnt go for this. |

I like the LCI gauges. The red vs orange in non-m cars is a nice touch. I just wish you could get the HUD tach in non-m mode like other idrive 7 cars. The center map is pointless so I set it to assisted driving so I can see the radar track. I stay in default view until the car is warmed up then switch to m view.
I have 5 different pages configured on the other screen depending on the mission (warm up, carpool, having fun, going somewhere I don't know, road trip). More customization would be nice but considering that there are still bugs in idrive perhaps they should just focus on verification. And I can pretend it's actually fun to go 20mph in my neighborhood by engaging the "pit lane speed limiter" like I'm in an F1 car. Gotta have fun where you can find it. |

While the Pre-LCI gauges are PRETTIER,
The LCI gauges are more functional. When I'm on track, using the HUD and LCI gauges, I get everything in one very quick glance. The Pre-LCI gauges didn't read as quickly with a quick glance due to needle geometry, while the LCI gauges are drawn the way a 6 year old would draw a dash - but it works, and fast. The pre-LCI gauges were a bitch to clean properly as well. The stupid partial gauge bezel kept you from getting close to the screen with a cleaning tool. Shawn |

how can you clearly see rpm or even fuel level with some shitty gray scale no dial gauge? they suck, I'd pay someone $500 to come up with a more legible solution

I do wish they modified the "sport display" page for M cars. As it is right now it shows the oil temp which you already have on the dash instead of the water temp and it takes the full screen. If you use iDrive widgets you can get engine temp/boost+tire status+tq/hp+one other widget and add the g meter to the left side of the M mode cluster. Then you have the right cluster widget free to be whatever you want. So the sport display page is pointless other than you can bind that to a shortcut key.
And I wish the G-meter kept a marker at peak values like Cadillac does. Or at least a longer hysteresis so I have time to see the value after whatever maneuver is complete. |

Nope can’t read them. Stupid to me. Or maybe its me
I have to shift based off the tach now more than ever. At least the lighting system did not change on the M5’s like they did the LCI x7’s. The F90 is the last of the greats after the f8X. simple well thought out interiors and exteriors. |

I am coming from the minimalist display in a 2012 E92 coupe, with 2 analog circular displays, speed and tach. So the F90 is a big difference.
I am trying to get accustomed to it, and I think I can see the logic of providing the different types of information. But, it would be cool to have the option of a more minimal, analog gauge, and wouldn't have been difficult to program as an option. The traditional orange-red color from the early BMWs is also less distracting than these multi-color displays. It shouldn't be this difficult to figure out how much gas is remaining. A simple needle going from E to F worked fine. |

I really do hope that BMW follows suit of Audi or Mercedes and creates some sort of digital dash that doesn't suck.

I really like the 2020+ gauges. 2019 and prior look dated, but I think they’d look quite a bit better if they were higher resolution. I’d choose the latter if they had the aforementioned resolution upgrade.

I’d like a more detailed coloured centre map. The basic one is handy if you don’t drive with the map displayed on the central display, but a bit more colour and detail would be good.

I loved my pre-LCI gauges. Though digital, the physical gauge dial made it feel like a true M car. For that reason I loved those.
The LCI gauges and cluster overall feels very nice and modern without going all the way to the massive ultrawide displays in newer BMWs. Just the right amount of tech if you ask me. These gauges feel more ”BMW” than they do “M,” but I’m okay with that.
