Does anyone like the LCI gauges?
After owning my 21 M5C for about 8 months now, am I the only one who really dislikes the new instrument cluster gauges?
The standard road view is horrible with the stupid depiction of both speed and tachometer while the rest of the the options for info displayed really don't add much. M Mode display is slightly better but I would still greatly prefer the option of analog gauges as a display option. I know BMW was trying to update the look of their instruments but I feel that this is a huge step backwards and much prefer the pre-LCI digital gauges. .

I do.. I love it, actually. I don't dislike analog gauges, but they are passé in a modern high end car IMO. Mine are mostly in M view, but I don't have a problem with the regular layout either.
I thought that the immediately outgoing analog-looking digital gauges were ok, but the hybrid analog/digital ones on 2018 (and maybe 2019?) g30s were atrocious and I couldn't believe BMW would actually use a setup like that. |

Pre-LCI for the win. They are perfect. I've had the LCI ones on the loaners and I hate them. Make zero sense.

I was a bit bummed when I heard my 2020 was arriving with iDrive 7 gauges, but I’m quite fond of them now and the pre-LCI gauges look quite dated to me in retrospect.
I’m very happy with the gauges and enjoy them in my 2021 X7 as well. |

It’s not that I’m against digital gauges it’s just BMW could have done SO much better than they did. They could have offered the ability to have the choice of analog style gauges (like Mercedes or Audi) or more options on what to display. I hate how they insist on changing something that has worked perfectly for decades and then telling us we’re all dumb and a bunch of boomers because we can’t accept change. The way BMW designed the gauges isn’t even remotely intuitive and is difficult to get the info you want at a glance. Thank god for the HUD.

I wish it had more color options to go with the different modes.

I dislike them as well compared to my 2019 but what bothers me more is the fact on my Pre-LCI I could hit my M-Mode buttons and the M dash would display on my HUD. It won’t do that anymore. Now I have to hit TWO buttons. M-Mode and M-View to get that HUD display with the big tach.

It's definitely an improvement but I like pre-lci M5 gauges more. What personally miss in Idrive 7 gauges is personalisation that allows you to choose from multiple displays like in MB

Bottom line, with such a 'electronic' display there could be and arguably should be a good amount of personal choices allowed in the look of the display. Perhaps there are 'car safety' nazi requirements for the gauges to meet their 'standards.' The 'code' to make the display different is something an average second year student in 'gaming programing' could do, so there is little or no excuse for BMW to have it 1. be ugly 2. be so limited and 3. not customizable. It's not 'edgy' or 'cool' its UGLY..... But the RIGHT FOOT is all that matters.

Yeah, it says it’s supposed to work. I can’t get it to do that. Have tried every setting configuration I can find. Have my 1200 mile service soon and plan to bring it up.

I’m partial to the pre-lci gauges. To me it fits the traditional ‘drivers car’ experience and keeps alive that old school feeling and look. The wife’s G82 has a similar cluster as the LCI F90’s, and in comparing the two back to back, the G82 for me is harder on the eyes.

I personally like the LCI gauges. Now when I see the older gauges it makes the dash look busy. In M mode I leave the side gauges off.

I have the same problem and from what I have read this doesn't work and you have to push two buttons. For example, you can't press M1 or M2, and the HUD change (incl. the tach). You have to hit the "M-Mode" button and switch to "Sport" or "Track" in order to get the tach in the HUD. In my 2018 I was able to hit M1 or M2 (they were configured to display the tach in the HUD) and everything was set (eg. D3, Sport Plus, etc., HUD w/ tach, etc.). LCI in order to get the same it's 2 buttons. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
