That'd be really sweet, maybe at the next G2G I can see if someone's headrest from a sports package car fits... I like the way those look, flush with the seat.. So you don't have to have your head pushed forward. That'd be great for when I have my helmet on.. And every day..

Holy crap...I just realized I have 2003 or 2004 M3 seats in my '74 Nova...it's electric and has thigh support.
Do they call them sports seats in the 2003-04 M3?

I looked at it about a hour ago and confirmed the headrest supports are closer to the center and doesn't stick out like my '07 328xi headrests.

I will swap them and see if they fit and feel any difference...only problem is that the M3 seats are in black leather and my 328xi interior are beige.

They're not interchangeable...the supports are spaced further apart on the M3 seats than the '07 E90.

UPDATE:
Last week I got around to ordering the sports seats headrests and the seat covers for my '07 E90.

Since I have beige interior, I got the sports seats headrests, part #52107147462 for $122

They came in a package today...I took the headrests out and swapped them, perfect fit!

I looked at them, the sports seats headrest is a lil softer, the ends curves up like to keep your head from sliding off the sides, and it's not flat like the standard seats headrest is.

I measured the headrest from the chrome support bars to where it meets your head:

Stock: 3.75" from the front of the chrome bars to the front face of the headrest

Sports headrest: 2.25" from the front of the chrome bars to the front face of the headrest.

I sat down and laid my head back like i'm relaxing while driving, it feels better and doesn't stick out like the stock does.

Pics to come...

headrests

my wife has hated the headrest from day one (non-sport). We even talked to service soon after getting the car. They had no solution. After reading the above I ordered the sport leather headrest. It definitely is a world better. At least an inch farther back. BMW will not authorize the switch due to liability.
Now I'll have to do my side (leather sport headrest 205 dollars). Just got done taking apart the original headrest. You start by getting the leather out of the clip on the underside with a flat screwdriver (it has a plastic backing that catches in the grove) do the two outer short pieces first. Then remove the metal post and their support. Now you can remove the leather covering. Unfortunately the foam is mounted on a hard plastic frame. there is not enough depth to the foam so you could not cut it and resew the cover. The leatherette model is a lot cheaper. Someone earlier liked the e46 headrest - if you can find one on ebay in your color (i have beige). Mine was the only in the USA. The headrest in the non-sport are a real weakness in this car.

Finally got around to taking a pic of the difference when installing the seat covers...

Standard/Basic seat headrest is on the left, Sports seats headrest is on the right...you can clearly see the big difference between them.

The sports seat headrest is curved inside which helps holding your head from sliding off in high g's turns.

Best of all, it's a direct swap! No modifications or changes needed!

Edit: I also noticed the sports seat headrest is considerbly lighter than the basic headrest.
