Question Regarding Exhaust
'20 M5 Comp... Button labeled "Sound Control" on the center console. "On" is louder, or more sporty, as the manual says. "Off" is a little quieter. I'm kind of surprised that it defaults to "On". M1, M2, or just normal, such as after starting the engine, it's always on unless I actually push the button to toggle it off. Is this normal for everyone else? I would actually prefer it to default to "Off" for driving out of my neighborhood early in the morning. I think I've looked through all of the settings in idrive and didn't see anything that would cause it always be "On". It comes "On" at startup even if I had it turned "Off" when I shut the car down.

Well I prefer that it defaults to louder, as for some reason when set it to quite mode and pull away it sets my wife’s cars alarm off. It does it with fail!
So it could be worse... Also get a louder car for weekends and the neighbours are pleased to return to a quieter Beemer come Monday, seems to work for me 👍 |

Yeah, I figured most would prefer it louder anyway. I'm not really bitchin, it's not that loud. I was just wondering if it's normal for it to be like that, because most default settings are usually the most conservative settings there are. And when I drive the M3, I pretty much try to idle out of the neighborhood. I usually leave at 5 am, so yeah, I try to be nice to my neighbors.

I believe, as long as you are not at sport or sport plus, that button doesn't change much on the muffler noise level. Only for the ASD.
While on Sport and Sport Plus, the exhaust valve is opened up.
