I wouldn’t replace the windows on a new car that’s for sure. They probably need to take off the inside of the door and who knows what else. You could easily end up with rattles. That’s if they don’t mess anything else while doing it. Good luck.

I hate that you are walking away from the brand of BMW for one dealers actions. With that being said, I don't blame you. Best of luck getting BMW NA to help. You might send them a link to this thread, I would be willing to bet if they knew it was generating this much buzz it might influence their response/action moving forward.
I forwarded the thread to them. They seemed genuinely concerned about the details here but non committal on the response. I don't blame them and I'm not hopeful either.

BMW was the first nice car I ever owned when I could afford one. I still remember the enjoyment of owning the E90 series M3. It's a connection that's hard to erase, I'm sure.

Thanks for all the support and constructive feedback here! I will keep updating if I hear back.
Sending BMW NA any information is the kiss of death... Never direct them to a forum...

It's the equivalent of telling people you will lawyer up... Once you do that, people (companies) won't negotiate with you... They (companies) want things to go away QUIETLY... You letting them know you have posted this story is not going to make them comfortable...

Just so there's no misunderstanding, by all means, post away, there's nothing wrong with that, but don't alert BMW NA that you have / are...

I knew when I first posted here that I was giving up a negotiating lever. I suppose I had come to the realization that there was not much to negotiate with BMW NA. The mistake on my part was to assume a special edition car gets different treatment. I've learnt my lesson. Some minor gesture, financial or otherwise, wasn't going to sway things for me. At this point, this is largely a PSA so that others who read this thread or google about it can learn from my experience. Even if one other person can avoid this in the future, I'd be happy.

BMW NA is a business and I don't expect them to behave irrationally against their own interests. At this point, I see no incentive for them to go out of their way to help me. After all, I'm just one customer and the law of large numbers is in their favor.

very disappointed.

was hoping BMWNA would make good of this situation, or at the least help in anyone possible.

This has become a long thread but I think I'm up-to-date. Assuming so, did you ask the dealer to replace the glass? If this is all that's wrong with the car and they'll replace it, then the only person being punished here is you--I'd take it (assuming there's nothing else wrong).

+1. Not gonna buy a brand new special edition whose door panels were removed along with trim to replace glass. Pointless.

Honestly, it's not as big of a deal as you think it is... The removing of door panels and whatnot...

Millions of us get tints - requires opening of certain trim / door panels... Nobody would get window tints if that were the case...

People get wraps / protective film, etc... This requires removal of handles, emblems, etc - nobody would do this if you couldn't put the car back together...

It's just a M5... It's not built by hand, it's mostly machine... If this was a Pagani or Koenigsegg, yes please leave as is... I've had windshields replaced due to cracks or chips and they were done on M's and AMG's... At the end of the day, nothing was compromised (well, except when the F10 was brand new and 1 week in I had to replace glass and they accidentally swapped it with one not equipped for hud lol) and nobody knew except me and the autoglass repair dude...

Get it, enjoy it... Just ask them to replace the glass... Life's too short to stress about something like this for so long - there's far greater fucked up shit out here and things that can't be fixed as simply as "replacing glass..."

It's just a car. That said, it's your car (or was/could be) and therefore your choice but I fundamentally don't understand.

Wait, pointless? That implies the point was "new car" more than it was "new special edition M5". We see the world very differently—were you planning on driving it after delivery? Sorry, I'm being facetious—it's obviously your call but I fear this is one you might regret.

As ridiculous as the dealers actions have been, rejecting the car for this reason seems excessive. I don't see why you wouldn't simply replace the glass (doors only).

Trim comes off a car for many reasons. Who's to say that this special edition car won't have rattles from the factory, requiring the door cards to be removed anyway?

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the gravity of what they've done, though I feel that you will ultimately be the one to miss out on the opportunity to own something special.

Sorry to hear. Sucks dealer did that. Sounds pretty slimy.

Regardless of outcome it would be cool if BMW NA extended some kind of gesture in appreciation of your patronage. Maybe a free M performance driving course?

To the OP, I would go to a certified BMW body shop. They change out glass 50 times a day and I'm sure could fix your problem very easily. You may have had a bad experience with body shops in the past, but a certified BMW body shop can fix this with no rattles or issues.

BMW tracks the forums and has for years. The also have the ability to associate user names with customer names. I am not sure how they do it, but I have been contacted several times by BMWNA in reference to forum posts. First happened about eight years ago and freaked me out.
