F90 M5 vs 2018 Audi R8 V10

My neighbor is a jackass. I don't know exactly where he lives, just in the neighborhood, otherwise I'd pay him a visit. Has a 2018 R8 V10, does 80+ mph though the neighborhood. Today he tried to pass me in a 25 zone, turn lane, then almost ran me off the road trying to cut back over. After that harassed me trying to race for almost a mile. How would a stock M5 do against the R8, what mods would it take to win?

An R8 V10+ traps ~130mph, A good tune with good gas on an F90 M5 will do the trick...

I would say it's a driver race. In gear acceleration M5 would win because of higher torque, check this comparison below

http://www.zeperfs.com/en/duel7384-5910.htm

That is the plus version, non plus M5 would walk, see below

Nope 60-130 mph on a stock v10 plus 2nd gen R8 is in the mid 7's...... . And obviously with a top speed of 205mph it will only get worse for the M5 the faster you go . Stock vs stock not a chance. Power to weight is what matters and it's not even close .

We don't know if it's a plus or regular R8, OP needs to clarify.

If a regular, then M5 is slightly faster, check the second link I provided.

If it's a R8 plus, then the R8 is slightly faster, but not by much , and if it's in wrong gear , or somehow unprepared, then the torque advantage of M5 would spring a surprise.

My R8 is a non plus but tuned past the plus- as the only difference is in software with the engines being the same. The R8 is an rpm car and one needs to be in the right range to truly push against a car like the F90 where it can just trounce cars with the flat torque rating (as mentioned above). In a full on roll race where the R8 will more than likely be in the right rpm range, it should pull (the plus) but the non plus in stock format is a bit of a slug- I own it LOL.

Disclaimer: this is all relative to faster cars as the R8 is faster than almost any car on the street in reality.

^This. I have raced a R8 V10 plus and non plus - from a dig at the track. I consistently beat the non-plus - they were trapping 125-126ish MPH. The Plus I was racing was not trapping 130 - but 127-129 MPH - and I was winning most of those (drivers race). I have the Competition though - and run consistent high 10's at 127-129+ MPH.
Roll would be close as well I believe - but I am shocked to hear the poster above state mid 7's for the Plus? That is Turbo S quick - and I destroy Audi R8 Plus cars with mine. Huracan - for sure - I just have not seen the R8's being as quick as their Lambo counterparts.

I'm not sure if it's a plus. May have to race him to find out haha. Is there an easy way to tell?

Stock tune Gen 2 plus with quicksilver exhaust and r888's from a few days ago ran a 10.38@131.35 . In good air even stock the v10 is killer .driver is always key in any car , if it's not in the right gear of course it could lose.

Either way I agree with your original post. Your neighbor is a jackass. Don't take the bait. Nothing good will come of it.

My neighbor showed up in a new R8 to my place tonight. I have nothing to add other than expressing my deep love of the R8. I don't even care how it performs it's gorgeous

I can't speak for modded as it becomes tricky at that point to discern what is and isn't done. I can state that Motortrend ran a 10.6 with one and Car and Driver a 10.9 - both at 129 MPH. It is a couple hundred pounds heavier than the Huracan. I cannot find a a low or even mid 10 second stock R8 pass anywhere - they are mostly 10.7-10.9 at 128-129 MPH - which is within the F90 Comp times and slightly ahead of the standard M5.

Agree.

I cant deny anything about the gen 2 R8 -one of the last 600 hp normally aspirated engines. And that glorious exhaust note- just that is worth a tick or two less than some of its direct competitors. The 2020's have a remodeled fascia and look even more aggressive than my 17. Its a tremendous car that drives really well, has mag ride dampers so even a daily drive is more comfortable than many other non sports cars. Did I mention the exhaust!!!!

To compare it to the M5 and speed is a great compliment to the M5 and what it can do from a trap and ET standpoint.

Haha... we sat in front of my house revving it in neutral just to hear the wonderful noises. It's a special car in an era where cars seem to feel a whole lot less special to me.. . I'd post pics but for some reason the app won't post the pics I upload. We're taking it out on a late night top down run tonight

I have a V10 plus along with a stage 2 tune F90. I have ran them head to head but I will try. The R8 is just an absolute beast!

Stage 2 lol, i think its the other way around, with the right octane a stage2 F90 can trap ~135mph. R8 cant come close to that....

I could see the R8 feeling faster though. R8 is louder, engine right behind you, low to the ground. I'm not sure why, but the M5 doesn't feel as fast as it is.
