DIY oil changes.
I was just researching this topic as I plan on DIY oil changes on this car. I was very happy to see that the underpan on the BMW engines has access points for the filter and drain plug! On my Audi's I always had to remove the entire under pan to get at ANYTHING.
I was watching some videos on the older M5, and the V8 ones had a Drain Plug on the Filter Housing while the V10 model did not. It appears the 2018 M5 point filter housing does NOT have a drain plug on it so when you remove that cover to change the filter it is going to be a MESS. I was actually hoping the oil filter was on the TOP of the engine like it was on my '97 M3 and '94 325is. (an M2 if I recall, never changed the oil on the M2). Anyone do an oil change on their M5 yet? Mike

The standard rule of thumb for BMW free service is usually 1 year or if the sensors dictate- whichever comes sooner. The first oil change is usually the one I do earlier than any manufacturers recommendation to clean out the piston shavings and such but with BMW they change it at 1200 so Im good. And I drive this mother fucker like she is on fire!!!!

I will not go to the local BMW dealer for service ever again.
The other dealers are 2 hours away. Do the math. 30 minute DIY oil change vs 5 hours plus round trip. Mike

And personally I would never take it to the dealer but they told me I should to maintain the warranty, in case if something ever happens. Side note : it take 8.5 litres of oil, then start drive check level, with the bullshit 30 mins sensor and top up slightly if needed. I use redline 0W-30. |

I have 3 dealers within 15 miles of my house so my math makes more sense to have them do it for free. Plus I like the coffee machine at the dealer.

I currently have 6800 miles on my car, my break in service was around the end of july i did another oil change on December 10th along with my fuel sensor recall my next service said 6200 miles or 12/19 which i thought was odd but whatever but right now my service light for an oil change is on says and i have 200 miles remaining so something is wrong here, I did an oil measurement and everything looks fine has anyone ever had this issue before.
