Would be much appreciated if you could ask your salesman or service manager how they did that.

It's for my M5. I doubt the dealer did anything to the key. Just came that way. If your dealer needs proof I can take a pic of the key in the M5.

M5 or M5 competition? I'm at dealership now and everyone is confused lol. Service associate and salesman both googling. They're going to send an email to Puma. The lead BMW engineers for Canada

Update
I was annoyed and left the key unused since no one knew what was wrong with it. It ran out of battery, on the weekend i decided to start using it , so i charged it in the car while going to work . After it started again it showed the beautiful ///M logo instead of the Bmw . I have no idea what happed or why

They key still works for unlocking and starting the car. Mine had died yesterday and I hadn’t even noticed. Only the display stops working.

So there it is... You've solved it... There is also a break-in period of the key as well... One full cycle of battery and the M logo is unlocked...

Thats good but anyway do you carry the mechanical unlock key with you? If any electronic error occures in the car you have to unlock with mechanical key am I right?

I was informed by the BMW Tech that they have 2 batteries - one for the display and one for unlocking/locking the car like a standard key fob.

What mechanical unlock key are you guys referring to? I don't have a normal m5 fob (not the display key) and the only "mechanical" key I have is the one to lock the glove box if I valet the car. It won't unlock the car from the outside.

Came standard with 7 series (my B7 has it) and I hardly use it. Sits on the charger. Not sure I want to order one for the M8 unless they make it smaller and more practical.

yea its that one , when you order a Display key you will get the a Metall key similar to that one.
you can Unlock or Lock(car Alarm will not be active) the car using the "mechanical"/"glove box"key in case your key Fob battery is dead , in order to do so a plastic protection cover on the door handle needs to be removed.

So I can use the display key for unlocking the car and starting engine with dead (screen) battery? Other battery in the display key can be used like a normal key to unlock car and starting engine

I live in Montreal.

Car came with the useless display key (M5C).

Since day one, it has shown M on the display.

Anything you might want to do with the display key, you will be able to do via the BMW Connect App on your phone.

Display key is nothing else than an instrument aimed at bragging and showing off.

My 18 year old son loves it !
