Would be much appreciated if you could ask your salesman or service manager how they did that.

Update
I was annoyed and left the key unused since no one knew what was wrong with it. It ran out of battery, on the weekend i decided to start using it , so i charged it in the car while going to work . After it started again it showed the beautiful ///M logo instead of the Bmw . I have no idea what happed or why |

They key still works for unlocking and starting the car. Mine had died yesterday and I hadn’t even noticed. Only the display stops working.

What mechanical unlock key are you guys referring to? I don't have a normal m5 fob (not the display key) and the only "mechanical" key I have is the one to lock the glove box if I valet the car. It won't unlock the car from the outside.

Came standard with 7 series (my B7 has it) and I hardly use it. Sits on the charger. Not sure I want to order one for the M8 unless they make it smaller and more practical.

you can Unlock or Lock(car Alarm will not be active) the car using the "mechanical"/"glove box"key in case your key Fob battery is dead , in order to do so a plastic protection cover on the door handle needs to be removed. |

I live in Montreal.
Car came with the useless display key (M5C). Since day one, it has shown M on the display. Anything you might want to do with the display key, you will be able to do via the BMW Connect App on your phone. Display key is nothing else than an instrument aimed at bragging and showing off. My 18 year old son loves it ! |
