Factory Extended Warranty
Is there a factory extended warranty that you can purchase at the time you buy the car? If so, how much extra coverage do you get and how much is it?

Here are some pricing options I've found: 5 years/75k - $5349 5 years/100k - $5849 6 years/75k - $6199 6 years/100k - $6849 7 years/75k - $6999 7 years/100k - $8299 The above is for platinum coverage (everything). Not really worth it in my opinion. Up to you. |

You can go on myBMW website and see the choices.
Steep Price? Not really. Try pricing a repair....if you keep these cars for 100k miles you will be happy you spend the extra money up front. What is too bad is the 7 year limit. You probably can go after market for a longer warrantee year wise. You can get Powertrain+ for less. 5 year/75000 $3100 5 year/100,000 $3700 etc up to 7 year/100,000 for $5000. This is from the original warrantee start date so watch the clock carefully before you buy an extended warrantee. I would not own such a car without a comprehensive service plan pre-paid. Once my extended warrantee ran out on my 2003 RS6 it became VERY expensive to keep on the road. Mike

Have many people on here opted for the extended coverage? It seems like most people on here lease or just switch cars before the warranty expires. I tend to keep my cars longer.

Please stop using the misleading marketing numbers for the extended warranty. For example the 5year/75,000 miles is really just a 1 year/25,000 mile extension of the factory warranty. Same with the money factor when leasing. Just a marketing trick to make it seem less than it seems.

After-warrantee issues can be very expensive as such cars age. Things go. Oil leaks happen. I spent a fortune fixing my RS6 for an oil leak after the warrantee was up. And then little things started to go, electronic things.

I got Geico's mechanical breakdown coverage. Good for 6yr/100k miles @ $240 a year with a $200 deductible.

Gotta LOVE Geico for that reason alone. And it’s transferable to other Geico policy holders. Up until 2006 it was unlimited mileage and unlimited years and, again, transferable. They even covered exotics for 10 years. Not anymore.....

You might consider EasyCare, an after-market warranty company sold through many BMW dealers. I bought an 84 month, 85,000 mi. bumper to bumper policy (Total Care) for $4750. I had EasyCare, the same coverage, on my 750i, and it saved me about $3000 in non-covered repairs during the years I owned it. If you keep your cars, get the extended warranty.

The way I see it, things tend to go little by little after 150KM on the odo.
So I keep my 10 K and will spend what is needed at what point it is required. And not pay twice. My 335 ran 12 years, and 230K on the odo, and actually sold it to my mechanic for $ 9,500, only spent about 5-6k in repairs, and was full FBO tune and all. |

As a former RS6 owner I echo Mike's comment:
1. the Dynamic Ride Control Suspension -- shot after 25k miles 2. torque converter shot at 35k miles 3. water pump shot at 30k miles (and try getting to a water pump on an RS6 ) 4. timing belt service required every 35k miles 5. front bushings shot at 35k miles BUT --- like the M5C it was a riot to drive. |
