For those of you that installed upper down pipes and have not added a tune (or coded the O2 sensor), how long did it take for the check engine light to be triggered?

I know the computer only checks this every XXX miles however, I'm approaching 400 miles and have yet to receive a warning. Seems a bit long but hey, I'm not complaining.

I believe it goes through 3 or 4 cycles before kicks in. Probably will happen on you next start. Lol

400 miles is a long time, normally between 50-100 miles

Not that I'm aware of. We had no discussion about that but I will be there later today and will ask.

No O2 bung extension or Mini-cat. Told my shop about it today and they were surprised as well. Guess I'll enjoy the luck for now

What's the update on this?
I'm looking at doing the same and not adding a tune at least for a couple of months (want to enjoy stock power). Any drawbacks?

Going to install Keller DP's soon and ordered the Vibrant O2 spacer so I can try bypassing the CEL. I'll let you guys know how it works out. As for tune, I'm patiently waiting for BM3. Hopefully it'll be out by spring time.

hey y'all.

I recently installed both primary and secondary downpipes. I ended up buying a fabspeed mini cats and o2 spacers for the primaries...im on 800 miles, and a track day of mostly full throttle, and still no CEL.

had to modify the turbo heat shield slightly to fit ( made a bend in the shield to fit) but overall seamless install.

Hi guys,

Long time lurker but first time posting because I just took delivery of a 2019 M5 (1st time owning BMW, coming from CLS 63 AMG)! I already have Akra Evo exhaust and I was thinking of getting the KP Gen II downpipes to open her up a bit more.

Sorry for newbie question but can someone please provide me a solution for when I do throw CEL w/o having to run a tune with the 1+2 DPs? I'd like to enjoy stock tune for a little while and get used to the car since it's new (still only 2000km) but I don't think I'll be as lucky as OP with no CEL after 5100 miles! Furthermore would the car run OK on stock tune with the KP 1+2 DPs or should I save that for down the road when I am ready for Stage 1/2?

EDIT*

That seems like a very viable and cost effective option w/o a tune, I might have to try that when I install the KP Gen II DPs. Do you have a link to the O2 spacers you used? Thanks in advance!

You can just get secondary downpipes and not have to worry about any lights.
