Thanks man; yep, seen it around. I'm sure I'll end up with one at some point. Went rc route due to positive feedback and ease of install...almost at 1200 mile mark, so I can get break-in service completed. Have a eurocharged ecu file too, but waiting to install. |

We'll see how this journey unfolds. I'm gonna keep this build simple...last round was way too much tuning and adjusting, etc. But, if the ecu flash can use a little support from the jb4, I'd be game to stack them.

Any reason you're opting for an ECU tune? I ask because if you're trying to keep it simple but already have a piggyback, it kinda already isn't |

Lol. You make a good point, and one that subconsciously I was trying to ignore. I like to try different things and see what works best...this time, though, it's gonna be different. My last two cars I ended up with five ecu files a piece...some off the shelf and some Dyno built.

M5 launch control vs E63s
@Limeypride, I know you posted some very good times in your E63s and clearly the M5 stock is slightly faster than the E63s (and definitely more tuneable)but a friend with his M5 says that the E63s launch control is easier and more dependable in the real world--for example, stop lights from a dig he can't always dependably rely on the M5 launch control and was beaten more than a couple of times by the E63s in impromptu stop light situations. The track is a different story where you have more time to setup the LC function--is this true in your experience? I currently own the E63s but was considering a move to the M5 Comp.

The E63S will let you activate launch control repeatedly, back to back with no cool-down period. It also works with traction control still on making it more readily available in everyday driving situations; the M5 requires DSC completely off. The M5 will also cut you off for a cool-down period when it sees fit. Finally, the AMG's super-aggressive LC shifting is... what's the technical term, oh yea, fucking unbelievable--it's fast to the point of seemingly losing no forward propulsion between shifts. However, I'd still take the M5 given a choice because, for me, it's a more enjoyable, more engaging drive. |

Thanks for the feedback. For me it comes down to preferring the E63s looks, exhaust sound and interior. Unfortunately, here in the northeast area the E63s' ride quality, even in comfort mode, is at best, barely acceptable. I love the E63s screens but the infotainment controls and Apple Car Play are a joke. The M5 has a far superior ride (although haven't been in an M5 Comp yet), it is easily more tuneable and faster and the BMW's infotainment control and Bluetooth Apple Car Play are quite good.

You're correct on form:function--> the AMG's interior is far more impressive (by miles) but it's slow to respond and the user experience is cumbersome. The M5's interior controls are intuitive, the learning curve is shallow, it's full-featured and the overall system itself very responsive. If there's one feature that I often find I miss, it's the ability to control the passenger seat from the driver-side controls (the gentlemen's button I think BMW call it in the 7)--I used that a lot when the wife would fall asleep or when someone who adjusted it a lot left it in a way I didn't like (yup, I'm that fussy sometimes). |

What color is that merc in BMW idividual colors you think? Frozen Dark Grey? Nice runs there Florida, you said you were almost to 1200 miles. So you didn't have launch control in these videos?

Others have said that the car gets fast over the first 2000 miles as well, but I've not seen anything objective that shows that (ie track runs, etc). |

Have a weistec file on car now. Went to the track yesterday...was way too hot and humid 95 degrees and 3,000ft da. Ran an 11.0 at 125.5 on e30 blend. before I even ran the car it was heatsoaked. It gave the message 'engine Compartment too warm'. Not great....fast forward to today in Mexico.
Still on e30 blend, pulled the below 60-130. with racechip on race gas mix I would do 8.14s consistently (was trapping 128.5mph in 1/4). This is quite the improvement, and I'm still learning how to shift appropriately with this file. I have proven to myself that you absolutely have to shift yourself for high trap runs...the car falls flat on its face if you don't. 100-200kph -- 6.59s 60-130mph -- 7.67s Last edited by FloridaM5; 08-12-2019 at 11:38 AM.. |

Did some more testing. This time with 93 octane only. Car is equally strong on the top end and making same power.
Will try race gas at next outing. You can see the difference between racechip map7 and the weistec file pretty clearly here. I'm still learning shift points...I now know for my setup shifting from 3rd to 4th right at 6500 rpms is peak....the other shifts I'm still playing with. |
