Rejected 2 M5s and defected to Audi
M5 number 1 went back in for squealing brakes and they found all brakes pads were shot....pads on back order worldwide and out of action for a month...massage seats fell to bits and sounded like a bat of marbles had been dropped in the seat so back it went
M5 number 2 didn't start well, arrived on collection day to find it hadn't got the interior trim I had requested Drove home and all tyres pressure warning came on, it was telling me to fill them to 50% over what they should be, After numerous arguments with dealer who was telling me if thats what the computer says it must be right it turned out Germany had sent out a batch of cars with the wrong tyre pressure parameters, they had to recall the others Brakes again squealed like an old bus Mirrors would randomly fold in when driving Reverse camera stopped beeping the closer you got to a wall Numerous RATTLES some of which included...seats not put together properly...loose screws in dash Who ever built that one must have just crawled into work from the beer fest The Rattles were the big no no for me, BMW really need to up there game with cabin quality, the M4 they gave me as a loan car had more rattles/buzzes than you could count and my old M4 had to go back in on a number of occasions before it was rattle free So pretty shite experience on a £100K car Bought a new model (in the UK) RS5 Sportback sport edition and its like a breath of fresh air absolutely solid inside and out Don't suppose a popular post on a M5 forum where most posts are positive but my experience has been far from good |

Sorry about your bad luck with the two M5s. Shit happens. And it happens both ways. I know someone who just dumped their '19 RS5 only a few months after taking delivery due to numerous issues, then bought a 911 as a replacement. All these cars from Audi, BMW, MB, Porsche, etc are generally very well built, but occasionally there will be bad apples. Hope you have better luck with the Audi for years to come.
My F90 has been solid and good to me so far, but I'm only at 3k miles and 4 months of ownership. Had an RS7 a few years ago that was also mostly good to me, except for the many rattles and squeaks it developed after only 2 years. Still a big Audi fan at heart though, as much as I love my F90 right now. Looking forward to what Audi brings to the table with the next gen RS7 or RS6.

Sucks, I feel ya. I'm in an RS7 with an M5 on order, hopefully I will have a different experience. The RS5 is a great car, I've had a lot of fun driving my buddies sportback version.

Yes agreed on hit and miss luck with all brands...got friends in the M5 who have had zero issues...was gutted tbh as the outright power was addictive and would have been the perfect all rounder
Build date was December 18, easy to spot though as your tyre monitor will be giving off warning signs and telling you recommended pressure is 3.6 bar Hopefully stay in the RS until next Gen M4 comes out and try again All the best |

RS5 is a great car. I am also an Audiphile. I have had several and they were all very nice.
The previous RS5 with the V8 (NA) had a amazing exhaust note. LOL. I had the chance to drive one on the race track at Montecello a few years ago. Enjoy it! Mike

Don’t own it out of warranty and buy the wear service package that covers wheel bearings , brakes and get wheel and tire insurance. Then just enjoy it. Great cars with super expensive service.

Audis can be problematic too. Switched from an M3 to a new 2017 Audi S8+ and the Audi was a disaster. Passenger seat rattled like crazy, as did other bits, heater wouldn't always work, brake pedal constantly clicked, car vibrated whenever the V8 switched to four cylinders, rear speakers came loose and vibrated, dealer was incompetent. Car was in the shop something like 8 times in 9 months, including for a month at a time. Dumped it and got into an M550ix and it is much better.

New Sportback has only just been released here in the UK, can't compete with the M5 raw V8 power and the tech is not on the same level but great drive, proper miles with smiles |

Hi Nick, I am well aware of your troubled M5 experiences , looks like you've found a car you can enjoy without fixs being the order of the day.
As you know both my M5 2018 and the current 2019 M5 CP have been perfect, so I can't complain, I hope you have better luck with the new gen M3/4.

Long may the Audi love continue Nick. I know you had a lot of troubles with the M5s, but i cant say a bad word about mine. Just cant wait to get another, when moved and settled.

Sorry to hear about your M5 troubles... All manufacturers drop the ball and hopefully yours was a fluke. Noisy brakes are part of the deal.
The race pads I have on my Viper squeal like crazy and it's frankly embarassing, but that's part of performance cars. Congrats on the Audi, great cars.... but I NEED more power. YMMV |

Agree that the RS5 is more comparable to the M3/4 than the M5 in terms of style and ride but from a price perspective I could have bought another new M5 for less money than I paid for the RS5 mainly due to the massive discounts UK BMW are giving on the M5

RS5 is beautiful. Enjoy. I hate rattles. I've yet to own a car that lived completely rattle free for me. My E39 530i was ironically the most rattle free car I've owned... and I've had a decade of cars since then.

Had a '14 RS5. Great car, with a couple serious flaws, one of which was that the ergos were off for a tall guy. I was considering the new RS5 SB, but when I sat in the driver's seat it was clear that the ergo problem was still there for me. Shame, because it seems like it's a much better car than the last gen.
We've owned a bunch of Audi's, some great, some awful. |
