I honestly dont think the live cockpit is anything special, unless there is any more "M" info on there ?. I borrowed a new A class Merc yesterday, the one with all the info and gadgetry in the universe, and i have to say, it was far too much, and i was left bewildered by it all. I know in time etc, but it was info and tech overload.
I genuinely prefer the analogue dash of the current M5. Laser lights will be great, but the lights on the current car are spot on ?. |

Also, SimonH someone correct me if I'm wrong. But, laser lights are only for when you have your brights on. The regular lights are not changed.

Live cockpit is straight trash in every sense of the word. There’s not a single redeeming quality about it.
My hope is in 5 years BMW looks back at this first generation of live cockpit and wonders what were we thinking? |

2. The map view in the live cockpit just looks like random lines in the middle of the screen. no traffic info, no road names, no POIs, no markings designing the road as highway or secondary road. 3. The speed and rpm needles are impossible to see at a glance. 4. the main screen in the center stack has somehow lost the ability to do a split screen with left 2/3s being map and right 1/3 being media info. 5. Compared to Audi's Live Cockpit, it isn't even close.

I do agree that is seems weird the way the RPM's go backwards like that. As far as the map goes, I don't like it. I would rather just look at the idrive main screen for the map. However, I have some cars that just show an arrow or something really basic in the middle of the cockpit for quick glance. Having a whole stick figure map there is cluttering. I would rather have other things show up there. But, I'm sure you can change what appears there. I do wish they had some sort of performance reporting like AMG has. Something that will time your 0-60, 1/4 mile etc. Here is a couple videos that give reviews on it. This video gives a rundown on both the idrive 7.0 and the live cockpit

i always like the latest and greatest but after toying with the live cockpit in the m340 and the x5, its whatever TBH.
im super content with HUD and current idrive that i dont think it makes a diff in the bmw. compared to merc and audi- where i am not a fan of their infotainment system- the live cockpits are a much more substantial upgrade, IMO.

Just not impressed with it. It looks to me like a play station game screen. Too false looking for me. Still love the look of the now old retro look shall we say. Again laser lights looks nice with the blue tinge, but as they are a cost option and only on full beam are they worth it!! Anyway, glad there are not too many changes. Lets see what the LCI brings......
