I assume the sensor is replaceable and fits inside but don’t know for sure. I would not buy a $1000 tank with a nonreplaceable electrical part. This tank is still in prototype stage. I have no plans to buy one.

Customer will have to re-use the stock coolant sensor probe, it pulls out of the OEM reservoir. In certain cases it does not slide out smooth and you may need to trim around sensor to remove it. Additional o-rings are provided in the situation a stock o-ring is damaged. I have examined the OEM tank and sensor. I do not see how the sensor pulls out of the tank. It appears to be a part of the tank and cannot be pulled out. Then they say if it does not pull out you may need to trim around the sensor to remove it. How are we supposed to trim around the sensor as the plastic is very hard? Second how would this be installed in their tank and sealed? |

There is a picture of it pulled out. Apparently an o-ring seal. Must be pretty tight to hold up to 29 psi. When I changed tanks, I looked pretty closely and did not think the sensor cam out. I guess I did not look closely enough. The billet tank includes new o-rings for the re-used sensor. My guess is that you might have to break or cut the sensor and surrounding area out of the stock tank and then trim away material to free it.
At present I do not plan to buy one of these but maybe I will think about it more. I have considerably reduced heat but it is not certain heat causes the tanks to fail. |

So I looked under my hood today and theres like 2 drops of coolant on the tank coming down it like its slowly starting to leak. Mine got replaced once already about 5 months ago and 8000 miles - i drive alot
Brought it to the dealer they said they did a pressure test and that there is no leak. I dont understand how that could be the case. |

Beautiful looking tank, however, it still looks like a two piece design, top and bottom. I wonder why that is.....

I was carefully watching it...10 months old, 16k miles, and mine was replaced earlier this week due to a leak... The BMW dealer was super nice and took it in the same day and fixed it. I'll keep watching, as there seem to be members who had several failures...

I posted this in another thread as well…
2021 M5C, 13.7K miles. I had the "engine coolant level low" error message pop up after a cold start tonight for about 4 seconds that went away on its own. Temp outside was 34 degrees. I drove away and the error message didn't come back. Stopped and started a few more times while running errands and still nothing. Checked the fluid level and it is low (below the min level). I made an appointment with my dealer on Monday to check for a leak and going to show them the TSB and probably just push to get it replaced under warranty. |

I recently bought the RK Autowerks Billet Coolant Reservoir tank in the intro pricing. I got a video made for the install with James Aka What’s Your Forte on YouTube.

One other option could have been to TIG weld but that would increase production cost and potentially require more QA. Time will tell how the O-ring holds up. Two-piece O-ring design is a good compromise and can be replaced if needed. O-rings are proven suitable even in high-pressure applications.

I guess my concern is that since BMW’s design is two piece jointed by top and bottom and it leaks thru the seam. It is a bit unnerving to see this new billet tank look the same way. However, I do believe in this product, and I’m sure it will work flawlessly. Really looking into getting one of those LCI F90 atm. Hopefully this addressed the coolant leak problem.

Copied and pasted letter referenced above to bmw customer relations. Just purchased a 2019 M5 Comp. Coolant tank & injectors replaced ~12K miles, and documented in service records. After driving for two weeks coolant tank leaking at seam, 14K mi. Car under extended warranty until Apr 2024. Off to the dealer for another one. Remarkable that BMW will not / cannot solve this problem.
