Facebook Argument

So I've gotten into this argument/debate with this guy on facebook that claims BMW has/used to offer a "factory tune" or something for certain older M's to bring them up to competition specs. I find this very hard to believe and complete BS. Ive searched and can't find anything to back up his claims. But who knows, maybe I'm wrong.

Anyone have any insight here or is he just plain wrong?

He might mean something like this? It isn’t meant for M cars though. And it does not “bring it up to current M performance “
I don’t believe it exists either, could just be something similar to the above was installed and someone at the dealer told him all the fluf so he would buy it.

Interesting. It's not what he's talking about though since he's talking about a trans and engine tune for some older gen M3. This kit appears to only work with 335i's (I just tried a bunch of different models on the site and I couldn't find any that worked except a 335i).

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking to. There's someone else on that thread that is saying that BMW themselves gave his dads E46 M3 a tune and a racechip. Ok sure bud. Just because a dealership does something, doesn't mean it is BMW, nor is it sanctioned by them.

I had a 1997 M3. I had it in for service at one point and they did do a reprogram that included increased HP. Probably not by much. It was a NA straight 6 at 3.2 liters. Could I tell much after? Not really, but that "tune" was done.....maybe it was all bs....but at least the radio presents were not wiped.

Not sure if this falls into what could be meant but dealers used to install Dinan tunes or maybe they still do for older cars. However, while installed at the BMW dealer — the tune and warranty and whatever else was from Dinan.

He’s probably talking about Dinan tunes and performance parts. They used to be sold and installed at the dealership.
