CEL with engine sputter
I have a 2019 M5 Comp and with 67k miles. CEL came on yesterday. I couldn't accelerate hard. This morning, CEL still on but engine now sputtering. Garage smells of fuel! I think it's running rich with excess fuel flooding the engine. I think it went into limp mode and could not get above 2 mph. Luckily I was able to back out into the street for the flatbed to get it to the dealer.
Anyone else have this issue? Anything I should be aware of? I don't want the dealer to tell me some BS. I want this car fixed. |

You'll need to provide a little more detail. Sputter, limp mode, and CEL, could be many different things. Plug it into a scanner or have an independent shop look at it if you don't want the dealer to rip you off. Or get the diagnosis from them and get second opinion if you think theyre playing games.
But honestly this could be so many different things, there is no way to advise with out more information. |

Not sure if the cause is the same but I had almost identical symptoms after I took my 18 M5 for dealer warrantied/condition based required spark plug changes. The sputtering, CEL, smell of gas, limp mode and horrible backfiring. Cause (per the dealer) was tech neglected to torque the plugs after replacement. 4 out of the eight were barely in there. Interestingly enough the service was done at least 2000 miles prior if memory serves me. After that haven't had the issue after several thousand miles .good luck
