what size tires for stock 20" rims
I want to put 305/35/20 in the rear and then 285/35/20 , will that fit or cause problems. Also have any advice on what size or brand. I'm looking at Michelin pilot cup 2 sport

I run Michelin Pilot Spot 4Ss since I need a bit of wet-weather capability. I can't speak firsthand to the Cup 2s but reviews indicate they're amazing performance/track tires--perhaps overkill for road-only scenarios. Last edited by limeypride; 11-18-2019 at 08:39 PM.. |

i wouldnt change the ratio of tire size. if youre doing 305 rear the. you should check to see if you can fit 295 front.
or risk destroying your diff

Yep, you need to keep the ratio as close as possible. You'll need 295 in the front.

If you're doing the SC2 in 20", the closest front to rear ratio to stock are the 285/30 and 305/30. Michelin doesn't make a 35 sidewall in either the 295 or 305, so you have to go almost an inch less in overall diameter compared to stock, but the ratio front to rear is still very close. Closer than the difference BMW allows for their winter tire combo of 285/40-19 and 265/40-19.
I just referred back to the email BMW sent out 11/1/19 which linked to their catalog recommendations for winter tire fitment. I wanted to confirm and they did specify the 285/40-19 and the 265/40-19 tire combination for winter use. I hadn't considered the 295/30-20 SC2 for the front, but now I wonder if it would have fit? I'll have to check my clearances with the 285/30-20 at full lock to see if the wider 295 will actually work. I'll do that next time if it will. I do have aftermarket 10" front and 11" rear wheels. I went back and looked at the email again. I had clicked on the summer tire section, not the winter. The M5 is still listed with the 265/40-19 and 285/40-19 tire selection for the winter. Maybe sizing isn't as critical as we make it out to be? I'd like to know for sure!
