320i SE Petrol
I just listened to someone elses 320i SE and found that it is quieter than mine.
When I picked up my car I thought they had supplied me a diesel accidentally!! Anyone else find that their 320 sounds like a diesel??

Is that a six cylinder?

Theres no way you could mistake the 2.0 petrol for a diesel when they are idling. The diesel has far more clatter.
I have heard though that the valvetronic causes that tappety tappety sound which is probably what you are hearing. Although from the magazine reviews I have read and my own (admittedly brief) test drive of the 320i, the new iteration of this engine is the most 6-cylinder sounding 4 cylinder on the market. C |

Mine sounds like a diesel when I first start up - but from the outside only .
Inside the car it's fine. At higher RPM's the engine does indeed sound like a six. BTW , I got my car back today - they fixed the fuel leak. It seems fine now. |

Mine sounds like a diesel - All the time! When it's cold it sounds more clattery, as soon as I've been driving around a bit...the sounds smoothes out and all i hear it the sweet turbo whine when I rev to 1650rpm....shhhiiiiiiiiiiiii yay love my diesel!
Ps. Who knows where I can get good, cheap diesel? My first fill up tomorrow! I'm so excited! |

Have to agree my 320i sounded quite course at first - however it now appears to sound a lot better (has covered 2300kms).
Off the topic when I first picked-up the car the service interval indicator was displaying 25,000kms - five weeks later the indicator is showing 28,000kms (till next service) - have you experienced the same sort of thing. |

Interesting thing about the fuel tank - did you know that's it's equally split into 2 sections on both side of the car ? This is done for better weight distribution.
I sw it when mine was on the ramp |

Took the car for a 450 km drive last Saturday, thankfully no Highway Patrol were observed - think I may have been a bail application rather then a traffic ticket has I come under notice.
However, when I started the car next day it was showing 29,000kms till service. It appears the more you use the thing outside of the city - the longer it will go between servicing. It's all good. |
