Speed rating, unless you are planning to drive over 149mph. Lol

I got a call too to verify that I meant to order 4 "rear" tires when I ordered the 4 Sotto 3. I said I was going to use them for fronts too and they just said okay. There was no mention of "not recommended".

Hoping I don't run into any sort of weird fitment issue because of the competition edition being lower. Just a little nervous as I don't like mucking around outside of specs unless I fully understand the details/ramifications. Thanks for the input.

So given the current tire sizes, why would someone change the tire sizes from front and rear with a square set on an all-wheel drive car? I can see going slightly larger all around where the integrity of the ratio of diameters is preserved between front and rear tires. Unless you're running in 2WD all the time, this would seem to add unnecessary wear and tear on the differential.
Also, are you all switching tires on same rims or buying a whole new set of rims? |

You can buy winter setup from bmw in square or Staggered setup. What's important is rolling diameter, width of the rims doesn't effect the rolling diameter much as long as you stay within 1/2" Differential will be fine. I have calculated and everything is fine. I do have quotes for summer tires and rims that stays within 1% but they are 40mm difference in width from front and back.

Tire Racks inventory seems to be pretty fluid. I ordered the Sottozero 2 set on Black Friday and the rears were listed as backordered until 12/8. But on Sunday night I got notification that all 4 tires shipped - and I received them on Tuesday.
If you want the 275 / 285 I recommend just ordering them and they will probably ship earlier than expected. |

Can't beat the Sotto 3 285s at $155 each!
I was going to get the Sotto S2 275s for the front anyway but the Tire Rack sales guy told me running Sotto 3 285s on the rear and Sotto S2 275s on the front was a bad idea. Probably bullshit but I decide to go ahead with 4 285s. If something seems off I'll get 275s for the front and just stash the extra rears. I bought (practically) new 706M bi-color rims for the winter setup.

I've ordered the Hankook tyres 275/35R20 102W and 285/35R20 104W for driving also fast in winter at the German Autobahn.
I'm not convinced but the Michelin PA4 was not available as well as the Pirelli SZ3 in both sizes and with the speed index W. |

Has anyone filled their winter tire setup with Nitrogen? Pros/Cons of using Nitrogen?

The atom of nitrogen is a little bit bigger the oxygen, so air escapes from a tire 1.6 times faster than nitrogen. Nitrogen also helps stabilize tire pressure that is caused by heat ( outside temperature or tracking the car ) normal air has water vapor that expends in heat, Nitrogen doesn't! Which also helps on tire wear and gas mileage Water vapor also can cause corrosion on steam valve or tire pressure monitor To maximize the benefits of your nitrogen fill-up, you'll want to fill and bleed the tires several times to purge as much air as possible. You want to maintain 93-95% nitrogen Nitrogen in some areas can be expensive No matter winter or summer, there is a great benefit in nitrogen as I stated above but, it will cost you a penny or two Hope this helps

Ok had the square setup of Pirelli Sottozero 3 installed on stock rims. So far so good.
