Please don't compare a piggyback flash to a flash tune. The flash tune is extraordinary and impossible for everyone else to do. This is what WE do.

The piggyback systems will run a lambda close to 1 (AFR high 14) and the engine will blow over a fraction of time.

Flash > Piggy. Agreed. But my piggy on my X5M keeps my AFR at Factory specs as long as I don’t exceed the factory mapping. Wideband corrects based on my logs. 3psi max over Factory works well for it.

Wont the M5 DME do the same ?

The fuel tables are setup in a way so if you add a piggyback tune, AFR will go lean

Interesting. BMW set up a different logic structure to estimate Mass Air Flow since they deleted the MAF sensors. Did not know the fuel tables were inverted at a certain level. Very surprised BMW did that with the faster Widebands they added to the F90. Especially with torque based modeling, atmospheric deltas, etc. Risky.

So, for conversation, without you revealing anything proprietary, at what boost level does the table command a leaner than safe AFR ?

Basically the AFR is set to 1 across!
But it's a target and will never go there. It's between 0.82-0.85 but if you add a piggy it goes to 1 and you have issues

.82 to .85 lambda is very reasonable for DI. I use .82 for my TT427 car that is PFI at 1500hp. Very safe for many years.

1 is going to cause failures quickly.
