How do I know if my X3M is BM3 flashable?
When I plug in my laptop and run the bm3 software it says the following
“DME Unlock Requirement: [OBD]” Does this mean it can be flashed without doing anything else? Tried emailing PTF but never heard back. Thanks guys |

Why do you say it needs to be bench unlocked first? I’m asking because Serge from PTF said the bm3 agent would state a bench unlock is required. However, he didn’t state what it would say if nothing was required.

You cant buy a BMW from the dealership and flash tune it. First you need to unlock your DME. You can visit your local tuning shop and they will do it while you wait. Or you can mail out your DME to some tuning company. They will get it back to you in a day usually. Then you can tune with any company you want.

With BM3 I got a very distinct "Bench Unlock" requirement message with my M340i. That being said, I believe the July, Aug, Sep time frame of 2019 is when BMW started switching out to the DME that required Bench unlocks So if it says OBD that should mean you're good to go.
If you plan on tuning any way, the worst that could happen is the it trys to flash then fails, and you know you need a Bench unlock. But, considering BM3 didn't say Bench Unlock - I don't think you need it |
