How many peopled ordered Dakota leather becuse they actually wanted it?
pre-warning....this is a rant thread.
The other day I was having a comparison discussion with a buddy of mine who also has a 2013 238 but only with nav/heated seats/moon roof. We were discussing MSRP and he was shocked how much more mine was and so we went over the options list and i mentioned "$1500 for leather" and he looked at me like I was crazy. He said "wait, I have leather too, I didnt pay $1500 for it". I explained to him the difference between the two, a few other people joined the conversation and they were just as flabbergasted....they were shocked by 2 things...1) the fact that a BMW didnt come with real leather...2) that it was a $1500 option. So they started examining the 2 cars, 2 people couldnt even tell the difference (granted they arent detail oriented). I didnt special order the car, picked it up off the lot and already had the dakota option. I got a pretty great deal on the car, considering its $52k MSRP...so I didnt really piss and moan too much about the unnecessary $1500 dakota....but it really pissed me off that I got this stupid option that doesnt really make a difference in my life, nor does anyone know the difference or of its existence. I looked deeper and realized that I was forced to get Dakota leather because I have the Cold Weather package, its a requirement. the CWP is a $500 option which is misleading because you have to tie it to the $1500 dakota option.....so its actually $2k just to get heated seats and a heated steering wheel. so now im just annoyed at the whole BMW bundle game.....but i guess you have to pay to play right? Is there anyone here who actually ordered the Dakota leather option because they wanted it? I personally thing its a stupid option...maybe it feels a little better, but I dont see it being worth $1500. I can see myself ordering it if i got red leather....or if they offered a brown color.....but no i have plain black. damn you BMW and your stupid games /rant

So you are bitching that you have to pay for options and some are bundled with others?
What manufacturer doesn't do that lol.

I wanted leather as well, but it comes standard in the 335 for us in Canada. I also wanted red (or brown, which is not available on the M Sport) so would have had to get it anyways.
My gf is now looking at a Mini, and we're probably just gonna stick with the base (and free) leathette option since we want black anyways. |

Given the quality of the Sansatec, I would live without leather. But I wanted Comfort Access and the Cold Weather Pkg (I could have lived with just the heated seats). But, like you, I bought the car off the lot, and was happy with the deal I got.

Can't imagine owning a $50K+ car without leather...mine was included in Premium package, but my wife's 128i M-Sport ($40K+) was ordered without Premium but with leather by choice.

Came standard on my car. It's a bad leather if you ask me. I had sensatec in my old car and though the feel is very similar, there is one advantage that the dakota has: it breaths better so you don't sweat like crazy like with the sensatec. If you ask me I would prefer fabric seats or alcantara over both.

BMW don't offer the imitation leather (vinyl?) over here but haven't had plastic seats in any car for quarter of a century and cannot imagine anything as grim as plastic seats in an expensive car. I suspect you can't have the plastic seats with the heaters as they would melt!
I also can't understand buying a new car if you don't select the exact configuration you want. |

Leather is standard on the 335 here so I have leather but I am glad. I am not a fan of fake leatherette...vinyl. It doesnt look or feel nice to me. I would certainly pay for leather if I ordered a 328. If you don't like it then order your car without it.
As far as having to pay for it on a 328...if you look at the 328 competitors, they all come standard in Vinyl or leatherette. Audi A4 and Mercedes C300 both have leather as a pay option. |

I wanted leather (terra color) and other features of the premium package, so I ordered with premium package on my E90 328i.
I currently have a 340i on order and wanted the red interior which is only available in leather. So, I added leather to my order. |

I wanted leathers. The vinyl still feels like, well vinyl. Especially as you slide into the seat.

I ordered my car and leather was a must have. A car in this class should not have plastic seats and no matter what many say, the leather feels better than the Sensatec. It also breaths and is softer.

I wanted red interior which only comes in leather, otherwise, I probably would have gone with sensatec. But then again, I would have wanted heated seats and steering wheel and would have gotten the CWP, so that would have added leather by default.

Next, the main thing Dakota offers is its fire retardant treatment. You don't want an errant seat heater to burn the car. This has happened. |

$1500 for Dakota leather is a bad deal. Most people that have it have the Premium Package as well, which comes with the leather for only $700 more, plus comfort access (worth $700 by itself), Sirius XM, and lumbar.

While the front seats may be dakota leather, when you get the package are the entire front seats, rear seats and any other trim pieces all leather? It's fairly common to only make the front seats leather or even only parts of them. I wish there were some nice cloth sport seats, I kinda like how they look and feel, but I spent a lot of time in hot climates where every little advantage was welcomed (in terms of resisting heat). In any case, just tell your passengers/GF it's leather. |
