Are these easy to remove and put back?

Apparently some Coke decided to leak out of a full cup even with the lid on it securely when I happened to smash the gas pedal. I didn’t notice the soda that had leaked until about 5-10 mins later, and by then, despite my best efforts, Coke had worked its way beneath the buttons. Now they’re sticky and don’t pop/click. Are these easy to remove and reinstall on your own?

Yes you need to buy a plastic pry tool from Amazon. I swapped out my I-Drive controller for a carbon fiber one and used the pry tool.

I have not removed the surrounding piece on your model, but they are generally not difficult However the buttons are all one piece with the iDrive controller and it is one sealed unit not meant to be readily disassembled. So your problem may end up being bigger than you hope.

Compressed air and pure rubbing alcohol after removal.

Thats what I was worried about. Seems like it might just be easier to have my dealer replace the entire setup under warranty. I bought the “Cadillac” super duper extended warranty through Hendricks so it should be covered. I’ve got a couple of other warranty issues I need them to take care of anyway.

I’m not sure that will be enough. I need to remove the wheel and all the buttons to be able to clean underneath them.

This happened to me with a sugary and cream filled iced coffee. Of course I can’t know the stickiness of that compared to Coke, and I also can’t know how much spilled when it happened to me as compared to when it happened to you. But, I did think it would definitely need to be opened/cleaned and/or replaced. I was a little slow in getting around to it. Within three weeks worth of clicking the button it did resolve itself and works now as if it never happened.

plastic trim tool, harbor freight has a decent set for the price.

any genetically born male should have a set unless you use a lot of pronouns

just pry slowly and carefully around with even pressure.

Don't be surprised if they deny a warranty claim. It's not a defect. They will be able to tell what happened.

Here is what I would do if it were me. Go to most any auto parts store or even WalMart and buy a can of CRC QD Electronics Cleaner. Remove the controller and just flood the heck out of it with the spray and operate the switches while it's wet and then do it again. Heck, use the whole can. You can't use too much of that stuff. It evaporates quickly and wont hurt the plastic. I use it all the time.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to tell exactly how much spilled as I didn't notice it until about 10 minutes or so later. That said, the coke was still full -- so much so that I wouldn't have known any had spilled if I hadn't seen it around the buttons. I soaked up more than I thought I would with some emergency napkins I always keep in the glovebox though, so that had me worried.

I've had the same problem when I put down a coke cup that had the lid not properly secured and coke spilled all over the place.

Just take out the whole center console and unscrew the module with the sticky buttons to clean it (you have a wide gap on the side of the module to clean the buttons with a brush and interior cleaner), it's relatively easy to do

Here is a DIY video how to take it out

It may very well resolve itself with a lot of button pushing then!
