Turbo blankets for F90 m5?
Assuming they are similar to F10's, wondering if anyone has them on their F90's and if they have seen any difference.

So logic of this item is to keep engine bay cool by restricting the heat inside the turbo. Restricted heat helps the turbo and not cause any issue.
Now Are there any pics of similar item on our motor or if someone can elaborate how would it go on the turbo? Thx

So ptp has 10% off available but I just want to be sure if in the end if it's worth it overall and also if installation is straight forward.

I'm very interested in trying one of these options. The engine bay gets and stays so hot on this car. I've run turbo blankets on past cars and currently have one on my big single turbo 2JZGTE swapped IS300 and it made a big difference with under hood temps along with whatever benefit it has for the turbo.

I guess Ill pull the trigger and order one. I assume it's just one big blanket for our turbos vs 2. Thx

The ptp goes over the oem metal heat shield that sits above the primary cats. I've had it on my s63 motors since my e70. On the f90 it fits, but not perfectly. Slight changes on the tu4, but still worth it imo.
The first option posted goes over the turbos themselves so in theory you can rock all three. I have a pair of the turbo ones I'm going to attempt to put on soon. I got the ones Troy recommended. Can't recall if the op ones posted are the same or not. Hope this helps. |

Ceramic coating is a good option, but most people are not interested in removing their turbos, diasssembling them, and sending out the turbine housings. Far, far, far more work than installing turbine covers or the big blanket that lays over the top of the turbines and cats.
This is really for heat management in the engine bay, such as to protect the coolant tank. The efficiency gains on these tiny turbos from whatever heat retention mechanism will have a minuscule effect on performance. If you had a single giant turbo instead, there would be some gains. I installed GT22 turbine covers and put reflective heat tape under the upper heat shield and on the bottoms of the coolant tanks. I also wrapped my downpipes. If money was no object, I would rebuild the motor with stronger rods, buy a supersprint turbo manifold and have it ceramic coated, buy upgraded turbos and have them ceramic coated, and ceramic coat my downpipes. Maybe I will do that at some point. |
