Porsche 911 Turbo vs. M5 Competition
I'm contemplating trading in my 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo for a totally loaded M5 Competition. While I find the M5 powerful, it certainly doesn't have the go-kart feel of my 911 Turbo. The M5 is absolutely spectacular looking. I do not need the extra room as no-one every really drives with me. Just getting my 11/2 year itch for a new car...Any thoughts would be appreciated!!

If you like the go cart feel, and don’t need the extra space, why the M5?
I get the itch, I’m the same. Typically upgrade or switch it up every 12-18 months, but usually it’s for something better rather than different. I don’t see how a switch from a near new 911 Turbo would be worth it IMO. |

I have never owned an 991.2 Turbo, but I have driven it countless times. Trust me, the M5 may be a nicer car overall (due to features, tech, and all the gyzmos, and usability), but the Porsche is a far superior sports cars (much more focused handling, and immeadiate response to commands). The M5 is good as it gets in terms of a 4 door coming close to the 991.2 Turbo
If you don't care about driving dynamics and want straight line speed, then the M5 stock is pretty evenly matched and has more tuning potential. |

All posts really great feedback!! No question that's what it comes down to. Incredible interior, features, and performance of the M5. 991.2 Turbo like the feel of downhill skiing....

I have not had a Turbo, I only had the basic 991.1, not even the S, while we also had our prior model M5. I would always take the 992 over the M5 even though the M5 was actually a tiny bit faster. Kids arrived in the meantime so 4 doors it at the moment for both cars. The Turbo is a bit too much for me, but as much as I love the new M5, I would get the new 992 if it was not for the kids. I say stay with the Porsche. I so miss mine. Or wait until the 992 is out. Though the Turbo will be a while.

I recently sold my 991.2 Turbo and have an M5 competition coming my way tomorrow. It will be interesting to compare. Straight line speed numbers are virtually the same. Obviously, the M5 won't move like a Porsche.
That said, the 991.2 Turbo leans more towards being a GT car than a "pure" sports car. For instance, I wouldn't call the handling of the Turbo "go-kart" like. I used to own an s2000 and a Cayman GT4. Those were go-kart like. No doubt, the Turbo has endless grip and it's capabilities are insane, but it is a heavier car and feels that way. I moved on because the Turbo was too expensive to daily and the lack of four doors made it an impractical second car. I think the M5 is a natural alternative to consider. |

Something really kool about a M5 Comp 4 door sport sedan even being talked about as a choice from 911 Turbo!
You may end up going back to the 911 in 2 years but I do not think you will be disappointed In the M5 Comp either! You may want to wait for the M5 CS I love the M5 comp the harder you drive it the more amazing it becomes considering the size and the amount of tech and luxuary it has! |

They are two different cars. I was within 1 tenth of a second in the quarter and less than half a MPH same day, same track with a 991.2 Turbo - so performance was very close (so close the owner who was a part of a well known performance Shop here called Engineered Automotive was pretty shocked) but I would not say the F90 CP is the superior sports car. It's a totally different driving experience - and price point. If you have the coin - I suggest both lol. And both respond very well to upgrades (although my F90 CP will remain stock). If it is a choice either way - for all situations and seasons - the F90 M5 CP will be a better all rounder.

I have both and I love both cars. They each have their own purpose in my family, the M5 is definitely a super sedan that can wear multiple hats vs the 991.2 Turbo.

Same thoughts at Juan, I currently own both vehicles and its more like i have a two door M5 and a four door 991 TTS. They are so alike and yet so far apart.

I've had my car for a few days and mostly driven around town. In full blown sport-plus mode, the M5 does remind me of the Turbo. The BMW automatic is really not far off from PDK - I am surprised by how quickly and aggressively it shifts. Overall, in this mode, the car is edgy and fast and feels surprisingly nimble for what it is.
It has great power. Not violent like a Turbo, but not many things are. I'm also still in break-in. Once I get more miles in it, I'll be able to push and really tell at that point. Steering feel in sport-plus is pretty decent. Like the Turbo, I think this car gets a bum rap on that end. In full comfort mode, the car pretty much drives like a regular 5 series. Very comfortable and without a lot of character. Which is not a bad thing. When I'm in traffic, sometimes I want a car that just disappears. I've never owned a car that so radically changes it's character depending on the mode button. I wouldn't expect this car to replicate a 911 - that's not what it's supposed to do. That said, these vehicles do have very real similarities in character and power delivery. Awesome car. |

All round - I still stick with the F90 M5 - winter/summer etc. - and all round performance. For two cars - I have chosen more extreme differences. As always - fortunate to have these decisions to make. |

Get the GT2 RS non weissach. It's actually pretty darn comfortable for what it is. I'm actually driving it every other day now since it's so docile when not on boost.

The 911 Turbo S has very a very compliant ride for what it is. Even here in bumpy Brazil, it rides smoothly. It is also very composed under bumpy cornering. I think that the choice of daily use between an M5 is mainly separated by the features and the need for the extra space.
Nevertheless in terms of speed (excluding corners), there is practically nothing between the two. The M5 is as quick as the 911. I met a 911 991.1 Turbo S in the highway (extremely rare occasion here), and he did about 2 or 3 hard pulls (where he went at least 8/10's), and the M5 kept up beautifully. The 911 is still a lot better dynamically though. |
